also the term "Romans" down plays the importance of Eastern Rite Catholics, when the quotes you used were made many of these rites did not exist, some of them just came back into comunion with Rome over the past two hundred years, 90% of the Christians in Lebanon are Maronite Catholics in full communion with the Pope

Ok, so he proved what was in question. Do you question it is "in use"? (LOL)

And what do you expect when you asked with out respect and started off by calling us romanist?
Why take it as disrespect? Don't dignify it as such, if it is. I got black friends who call each other the "N word" using it as a term of endearment.

If you want to be called christian then give some respect. You may just get some back in return.
From whom? It hasn't worked that way yet. You are different from some of the knucklheads that only use a friendly gesture as ammunition or bait.

I would be willing to call you Reformed Christian. If you would be willing to meet me half way and drop the Roman for Catholic Christian.
LOL, lionroar, you must realize "Catholic Christian" is what one of the afore-mentioned has taken to calling themself?^_^

Lionroar, I think it is slightly unreasonable to ask people not to call us "Roman Catholic" because the parish I go to has a sign that says "Roman Catholic Church" right under the name.
But I think Reformed Christian is a good name for Christians who are what is commonly called "protestant" I can understand why you would not like the term "protestant"

I agree. I was thinking Catholic Christian or just Catholic, because of our other rites, which are growing.

Personally I am Roman Catholic. I am of the western rite.

If he could produce more up to date documents. Then he would have an argument. He has documents going back 100 of yrs. He has to get from there to here.

It's bad methodology.

Intention. They mean it as a term of endearment.

TY. Then they should be prayed for. God lets the Sunrise and set on the good as well as the bad. What ever Christian Church they belong to.

Also it's very easy to get carried away in GT. It's easy to answer in anger instead of with love.

LOL, lionroar, you must realize "Catholic Christian" is what one of the afore-mentioned has taken to calling themself?^_^

I'm a bit late eh? LOL. I'm going to have to look at column C now.

Peace

Actually, "Romans" is a term that has been used by Rome for centuries. I've already demonstrated that from Rome's own documents.
What you have provesn is that it was used. Not that it's in use.

I've done both.

If you want to be called christian then give some respect.

Many of us asked that a while back. You refuse.

You may just get some back in return.

Now apply that to yourself.

Actually, we called ourselves, "Reformed Catholics and Evangelical Catholics" before the Roman slurs and smears were invented.

pass tense, those terms are not common anymore, if they became common agian I would use the terms Reformed Catholic and Evangelical Catholic.
I am fine with the term Roman Catholic as a popular modern american term for what I call the Catholic Church, I think this name ignores the eastern rites that are a growing part of the Church, but I understand the name Roman Catholic as a socialy exceptable name.

you like to use a slur to refer to Roman Catholics, you like to call us "Romanists", now you are twisting words to justify using these terms, your motivation is born out of hate and is unchristian. I ask for a little respect, "Roman Catholic" is a common term, calling us "Romanists" or "Romans" is offensive.
Also what theological works call the Roman Catholic Church "Romanist"? Is it biased?

I thought you guys were proud having taken control of the Roman Empire? Therefore you are romanists, pure and simple.

See post #3 in this thread.

Any particular reason why you've failed to retain the Catholic part?

Yo mah Romans!
;)
I've read some of this thread and found it informative,
humerous in parts ;) and sort of silly in others...

But one thing that I've noticed here at Gt, is that this
term, romans, has been used both ways.
It all depends on the spirit it's used in.
And then it's the context that's telling.

So I'd say, sometimes it's cool, sometimes it's uncool
(love machiavelli)
Same with protestant, sometimes it's just used as
a frame of reference, sometimes it's used as a hateful
term.

Same with traditionalists, reformers,... I guess
you get the gist by now.
:D

So my advice would be to assume the best, not try
to judge peoples motives (hearts), and just respond
as you feel God would want ya to, and take the
higher road, be the bigger guy/gal, heap some coals.

Like rick once suggested, celebrate the name, make
it a seem a "COOL" label, Change it from a negative
to a positive... (Yo mah protestant)
NOT that anyone asked for my advice, but when's
that ever stopped me?

I know, sometimes I'm no fun.

By the way, you can also drop the fallacy of "We are the one, true only Church that Christ Himself established".
Its not up to me but thanks for thinking so highly of me.

Maybe you missed my post were I would be more then willing to call you Reformed Christian.
If you would like I will call you christian but you got to drop that roman religion horse manure.

There is only one Catholic Church and you are not member of her. You are outside of the Catholic Church.

Your posts and threads arguing against Catholicism proves that much.

Peace

You make ME wanna be called Roman, girlfriend!^_^
It ain't so much what ya say as the way ya say it, huh.?
That's why I never feared bein' in the belly of a beast, because it doesn't matter what the system is, it's how people treat each other within it that makes them Christian or not.

I think my sense of humor has gotten strained because of few people refuse to to see it, but I should remember all the RC friends I have here that educate me & laugh at the jokes I make at their expense.
