The man did not have Trump in his sightline, and did not fire or get off any shots at “our agents,” said Ronald Rowe, the acting Secret Service director.

The point being made is the secret service agent deterred the threat before Trump was in greater danger. Of course, that doesn't mean there are steps that both Trump and the Secret Service can take to avoid getting that "close" to a disaster.

I used to have an SKS, you can get them for much less than an AK.
Yes the SS did better than they did in the last attempt on Trump's life but they let the would be assassin get away. A civilian took a picture of his car and tag , that's why he got caught

It doesn't mater what kind of weapon the man had. He could have had a McMillan TAC-50 and he still wouldn't have been able to hit Trump, because Trump was never in his line of sight.

Because a SS agent walks ahead of him on the golf course and spotted the barrel sticking through a fence. Incredible job by this one agent .
Why wasn't the perimeter swept and then efforts made to keep anyone from getting back in?
Was there a sweep? Did someone miss this guy?
If not for this one agent Trump could be dead.
A man with a rifle 300 to 500 yards away from the former president is a security failure.

Again how much, "Democrats are marxist/facists/muslim loving/comunists/demonic/child killing, will destroy the country if they get into power.

well thankfully it's highly unlikely trumps running again in 4 years, wether he wins or not, I don't see him being able to run a campaign or such in 4 more years, the guy is starting to show his age now at times.

Wich mans wether you like him or not hopefully a less polorizing canidate.

that I will agree with, but it really comes down to trump, remind me wich guy started his campaign in 2016 attacking a disabled reporter, who has continually and constantly insulted, attacked his oponents? Who started the birther movement. heck I loved trump complaining about being insulted by Obama after his weeks of, "Kamblah." comments.

This guy is all over the place politically. According to his posts on social media, he voted for Trump in 2016 and has both shown support for President Biden, and has referred to him as sleepy Joe. He also showed some support for Bernie Sanders, and he supported Vivek Ramaswamy this year and wanted to see a Ramaswamy/Haley ticket. He has a book on Amazon and in it he says, "I get so tired of people asking me if I am a Democrat or Republican as I refuse to be put into a category and I must always answer independent."

From descriptions I've see, the "perimter" is a chain link fence, bushes & trees and then a public street. I suppose the street could be closed while Trump is golfing.

The place where the gunman was hiding is a well known place to the secret service where paparazzi hide to get pictures of Trump. That's probably why the agent checked it thoroughly and spotted the rifle.
There should have been someone posted there or at the least checked it before Trump got in the area
