I believe the point being made here is that the Secret Service did their job. They identified and neutralized the threat before the principal was in any danger.

Not just Democrats see Trump as a threat to America; many Republicans and conservatives describe Trump as a threat to our country. Like Dick Cheney, "In our nation's 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,"


So much of a threat, lifelong Republicans are asking Americans to vote Democratic Party this election. Cheney went on to say
"He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again. As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris."

Adam Kinzinger said, "Donald Trump has suffocated the soul of the Republican Party," he said. "His fundamental weakness has coursed through my party like an illness." "vote for our bedrock values and vote for Kamala Harris."

Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary, described Trump as having "no empathy, no morals, and no fidelity to the truth."

Olivia Troye, former national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence, said Trump's goal is "to sow doubt and division" and characterized a vote for Harris as a vote for democracy.

Mark Esper, Former Defense Secretary, has called Trump a "threat to democracy."

John Kelly, Trump's former chief of staff described Trump as "a person who admires autocrats and murderous dictators" and "has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution, and the rule of law."

Bill Barr referred to Trump as "a consummate narcissist" who "constantly engages in reckless conduct that puts his political followers at risk and the conservative and Republican agenda at risk."

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former top aide to Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, said, "Fundamentally, a second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it, and I don't say that lightly,"

Alberto Gonzales, attorney general in George W. Bush's administration, said, "As the United States approaches a critical election, I can't sit quietly as Donald Trump — perhaps the most serious threat to the rule of law in a generation — eyes a return to the White House,"

a comment by Kim Ward, the Trump-supporting Republican leader of the Pennsylvania state Senate, on what would happen if she spoke out against the former president.
"I'd get my house bombed tonight," Ward said.

Both Democrats and Republicans have described Trump as a threat to democracy and America, but no one has suggested assassination or any type of violence. And let's not forget the current GOP Vice President candidate J.D. Vance called Trump a 'moral disaster,' and possibly 'America's Hitler'

The researchers found that despite similarities observed between right-wing and Islamist extremists in the United States, globally, attacks by Islamist extremists are 131% more likely to result in fatalities than attacks by right-wing extremists. Consistent with findings at the U.S. level, attacks by left-wing extremists are 45% less likely to result in fatalities when compared to attacks by right-wing extremists.

"I think the data suggests that we should be taking right wing domestic terrorism way more seriously than many have done," he said. "The 'Fox News angle' that Antifa is just as dangerous as the Proud Boys just doesn't hold up right now."

I agree and so does President Biden who told the media that he wants Congress to appropriate additional funding to the SS so that they can hire additional manpower.

Trump, and Vance for that matter, are the bearers of false witness against legal migrants in Springfield. Because of their lies schools and hospitals have received bomb threats and children can't go to school.
God is against telling lies about others. I'm not talking about opinions but about out-and-out lies. It's even worse when the facts are presented from reliable sources and the liar doubles down.

It was an improvement over the last attempt but it doesn't negate the fact that someone else wanted to kill Trump and had the means to do it.

I have tremendous admiration for these heroes, given the difficult task of defending a candidate who provokes anger and loathing due to his uncontrollable behavior.

Through doubling down on vicious lies, he angered many Haitian immigrants and a whole town that's been endangered and besieged.

That's 60,000 people with motives right there-lives disrupted by his lies.

The candidate needs to respect the people protecting him, not make their jobs more difficult.

May he choose to recover from this incident in a period of self reflection, acknowledging his responsibility to rein in his behavior.

I've seen a few clips of interviews with Routhe when he was in Ukraine and afterward, I believe. He wanted to fight as a soldier for them but they wouldn't take him because he has no experience and is too old. He despises Putin for what he has done to Ukraine.

I think that maybe he felt that if Trump were to become President he would put a stop to the US support for Ukraine and Putin would win.

You generally need to have a clear line of sight to something in order to have any hope of shooting it, even with an optic. Golf courses generally have hills and trees on them, and it's perfectly plausible that you could be 300-500 yards away from someone on a golf course without being able to see them, no matter how much magnification you had on whatever optic you were using.

It wasn't an AK.

IInvestigators say the suspect had a loaded SKS-style semi-automatic assault rifle. The SKS is a Soviet-era rifle developed in the 1940s. It’s rugged and reliable, fairly accurate, and loaded with a clip that is fed from the top down into the firing chamber, although the weapon can be modified to be fired with a detachable magazine.


The man did not have Trump in his sightline, and did not fire or get off any shots at “our agents,” said Ronald Rowe, the acting Secret Service director.


The point being made is the secret service agent deterred the threat before Trump was in greater danger. Of course, that doesn't mean there are steps that both Trump and the Secret Service can take to avoid getting that "close" to a disaster.

Apparently, the Secret Service had raised concerns with the Trumps golf course previously

Soon after Donald Trump became president, authorities tried to warn him about the risks posed by golfing at his own courses because of their proximity to public roads. Secret Service agents came armed with unusual evidence: not suspect profiles or spent bullet casings, but simple photographs taken by news crews of him golfing at his private club in Sterling, Va.

They reasoned that if photographers with long-range lenses could get the president in their sights while he golfed, so too could potential gunmen, according to former U.S. officials involved in the discussions who, like most others interviewed for this story, spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity.

On Monday, Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe led a walk-through of the incident site, where the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was able to get a weapon within 500 yards of the former president. Rowe stressed in a news conference that the agency’s methods had worked in averting catastrophe: “The protective methodologies of the Secret Service were effective yesterday.”

He also emphasized that Trump’s outing had been unplanned, forcing authorities to work on the fly.

“The president wasn’t even really supposed to go there,” Rowe said. “It was not on his official schedule.”

It doesn't mater what kind of weapon the man had. He could have had a McMillan TAC-50 and he still wouldn't have been able to hit Trump, because Trump was never in his line of sight.

Why do you think he was there? Maybe to adjust his scope? Even if Trump wasn’t in line of site when secret service spotted him Trump would have been if the shooter had not been spotted.

A civilian saw him fleeing and took a picture of the tag. That's the only reason he was caught.

One more hole and he would have been. I just saw the SS director say that the golfing was an unplanned event and they did a good job covering it.
If it was unplanned how did Routh know where Trump was going to be?

Routh was waiting for an opportunity to harm Trump, but he never had the opportunity to do so.
