I've been an fan of the X-Men since the late 70s/early 80s. I was a counselor-in-training at a Christian summer camp and one of the other CITs brought in a whole boxful of X-Men comics dating back 1975 with the first Giant issue introducing the new X-Men line-up: Cyclops, Jean Grey/Phoenix, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Storm (They took over from the original line up of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast, and Angel).

Anyway, I read that issue all the way up just past the Dark Phoenix story line, when Jean Grey died (the famous issue #138) and Scott/Cyclops left the team for a time.

I lost interest for a time because they put out so many other X-Men comics (New Mutants, X-Force, X-Factor, et al), and I couldn't keep up with them all, plus the issues were getting just too expensive.

I am pleased with the first two X-Men movies, though the history is a bit different that the comics version. I though they did a good job casting characters. I haven't seen the third movie yet (will do this weekend for sure). I do find it pecular to see "Frazier" as the Beast. But they did a remarkable job in making Kelsey Grammar authentic looking. I'm sure he'll do a good job (he was first pick for the role, btw).

Let you all know what I think. Cheers! (pun intended)

Went to see X3 this weekend. It was a bittersweet experience for me. Not sure I liked the way things turned out character-wise. The thing about superhero movies, as opposed to the actual comics, is that they can afford to kill off major characters (or also in this case, rendered powerless). For instance, back in the Batman movies, the Joker and the Penguin get whacked, same with the Green Goblin and Doc Ock in the Spiderman movies. But the thing with movies is that there are little recurring roles in the sequels, particularly with the bad guys. I'm not going to give anything away, but suffice to say, there are some things I'm going to miss should they decide to make an X4. Still, I would like to see an X4 and see how well it would go for the X-Men.

I am glad that they introduced or expanded the roles off other X-men, like the Beast, Colossus, Angel, and Kitty Pryde. I would hope that the next movie would give these a larger role. I realize with a movie 1 1/2 - 2 hours long, character development is sacrificed in favor of plot, but the popularity of the X-Men and the rise of "comic book" movies ought to keep this franchise gojng for at least a couple more sequels (I hope).

I am glad they are doing a Wolverine spinoff (a prequel). I hope they will do a storyline featuring Logan's Japanese girlfriend, Mariko. And I here they will do a Magneto prequel as well.
