Well, this is old news. But as many now know, North Korea is not in possesion of nuclear weapons. The north Koreans are openly hostile to the US. In my opinion they are a threat, and should be neutralized, unless they for some reason stop being so hostile. What are your thoughts on this?

well going to war with North korea and bombing all of their already starving street children seems pretty sad to me. If they do this I hope they are imprisoned for warcrimes. You think the world is going to forget? War is not a game. innocent people are dying and someone has to pay for it.

Crazy, maybe. Suicidal? No. If they fire a nuke at us, they will be hit a hundred times worse, and they know it. I'm on the coast they'll be shooting at, if they do, and I don't trust our missile defense systems to be all that useful. I would much rather we leave them alone militarily, and fight them in other ways.

They don't have to be. It could be something as small as one government falling to rebels or something like that. A final act of desperation.

They're a police state. You don't have freedom of speech, or freedom of movement in North Korea. Radios and TVs in North Korea are all distributed by the government, and altering them so as to receive signals from other countries is illegal. They also have a million active troops (about the same as our army, IIRC) even though they only have a population of 22 million. A revolution or rebellion in that country would be nearly impossible, short of some serious and extensive foreign support.

Now, on the other hand, Russia has small amounts of smallpox, as do we. The containers for something like smallpox are much smaller, they don't require confirmation codes or passwords to release, and they can be smuggled into the target country, completely bypassing missile defense systems. If released in an international airport, there's a good chance that up to a billion people would die (more than three times the population of the US). As far as threats go, this is one of the biggest.

I think they are too trigger-happy and unpredictable to be trusted. I think we need to keep our own defenses ready in case they are foolish enough to lob a missile our way, or make any advances toward Japan or South Korea. I don't outright advocate a first strike against them, but they need to be told in no uncertain terms that if they take one step toward a neighbor, or us, that the full arsenal of the U.S. military will be unleashed upon them.

There may be starving children in their streets over there, but that doesn't excuse their bellicose behavior. They wouldn't think twice about killing any of our children, and while I don't mean for that to sound cruel, the fact is THEY are the only ones that can change their economic situation by ending the saber-rattling and coming into the international community with a civil attitude that indicates their sincere desire to see real and substantial change take place in their country.

Oh yeah.......YAY!!! 1,000 posts. Finally!

It is my theory there are people behind the scenes who run everything.
Its like a game of chess, and the pieces are world leaders.
Its all being played as they want it. We can't change anything. I just watch and enjoy.
My thoughts exactly.

I don't remember who said it, or the exact phrasing, but it's something along the lines of, "there's no such thing as a random occurrence in international politics".

Haha, a lot of people agree with you! Maybe you just don't know where to look ;) The idea of a global, well, call it shadow government, is age old. The BBC had a very good documentary on a group called Bilderberg, rumoured to be in control of certain aspects of our political reality.
hXXp://sf.indymedia.org/uploads/bbc_radio_4_club_class.mp3 (Just replace the XXs with tt.) (4.7 MB, 30 min. Public domain.)

It's also speculated on how much the World Bank, G8, EU, and other organisations are influencing world events.
I think it's naïve to think that people in power don't exercise it.
