do you mean on a quantum level?

i dunno - guess i a simple gal. if i see it, hear it, feel it, smell it and taste it - or a mixture of all and some, then its real. before you say it - if i hallucinate, i test whatever im sensing on the other senses i beleive this universe is very material, with tyransers of energy along the material (cant explain this well). I beleive the so-called supernatural has an explaination, reasons we can identify now, or reasons we will learn to understand. (perhaps by quantum sciences).

and lastly, why the heck would anyone create a giant hologram, what is the reason it is here? etc? no id rather look for the simplist explaination first.

Yes, jellyb, the article was more scientific than philosophical...quantum level. They weren't really saying the universe was a hologram, but that it had some unique properties similar to a hologram. I'd associate it more with DNA, from what they're saying... the encoding of everything in each particle.

I'm pretty skeptical of it myself, however it is a seemingly reasonable model for helping to explain how physics acts at the quantum level. Strange things do happen. Quantum entanglement - Einestein's "Spooky action at a distance" - is one such phenomenon. I've actually read that there is going to be a lab experiment within the next year or so to make a small mirror appear in two places at the same time.

It sounds as though your work, Merlin, prompts the brain to send out signals to repair or adjust something...and hinder self-sabotage. I think of this as more of a neurological messenger system than an illusion--do you?

The article avoided the simulation and illusion aspects of the hologram, and focused on the structure and characteristics of a hologram, especially the interconnectedness of every molecule. It spoke of the sharing and posession of information from particle to particle.

I consider the 'mind' to be more than a property of 'brain'.

Watching PBS on Sunday mornings gives a sense of how desperate people are to embrace something to fill the void in their lives...the bottom line is that most everyone agrees that we have souls and, with eternity looming for all of us, it's best to filter out the nonsense and look at what has eternal reprecussions. Christ said that He was the way the truth and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. Either He told the truth, or His life and sacrifice on the cross were meaningless. The verse below. from Romans, summarizes the deceptiveness and futility of worldly philosophies:

21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
