I had never heard it defined this way either, and it is very interesting.

God reached way into the world to me at our first encounter. He made Himself real, so believing was not that difficult for me. So did He choose me and give me faith to believe? And if He did this for me, why hasn't He done it for others? Is it really their fault that they don't believe? Or has God chosen you and I and not chosen someone else?

I am uncomfortable thinking that this is the one sin that God's love can not break through.

Deba,

Well, God says that He knows those whose are His even before the world began.....so I don't know either...I've often wondered the same thing.

I'm not trying to convince anyone that it is the definition of Luke 12:10....it is just an interesting thought. God didn't turn the light bulb on yet, so I simply do not know. :)

That's a big problem, isn't it! We all hold ourselves back with that.

When the same message is shown in Matthew 12:31,32 and Mark 3:28-30, Jesus is talking about demons speaking against the Son of Man. After the verse, Jesus says any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people.

Which could easily imply that demons are not forgiven, but people are. Try reading through the Matthew and Mark passages with that in mind, and there are no conflicts with that possibility.

Those who say things against Jesus (whose diety was still in question) are overlooked, but those who deface God's heart/spirit are in trouble.

Expressing thoughts and tossing around ideas is a fine thing, and it is far from me to discourage anyone from doing that. But why is there such a mystery around Luke 12:10 and Matt 21:31? Did Jesus spontaneously make this announcement without cause, or is there a context, which explains what he said?

And remember, the word "blasphēmia" is not passive. It is an act. It is impossible to do nothing, and commit it. In order to commit blasphēmia, one must speak. He must accuse, denounce, insult, and speak injuriously.

I'm not trying to insinuate that I don't respect your views, but that isn't the way I work. I hold something before the Holy Spirit as a question and I know no answer until He shows me.

That way I don't get mislead.

How wrong can man be! Everything in the book is about man we are what matters! BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Jesus won't have forgive the creation and let the holy spirit go then the sins of all would have be unforgiveable.

Good point....Okay, partial light bulb turned on.......God said that he wasn't willing that any should perish.

Which supports the statement that it is us refusing to believe that is the unforgivable sin.

Refusing is an action. Demons are where they are at because they didn't believe and could not be cleansed. So the light increases....thanks guys.....:)

I've heard many people's opinions on just what the 'unforgivable sin' is and yesterday I came across an explanation I have never heard before.

Here it is:

THE STUBBORN BELIEF THAT GOD CANNOT OR WILL NOT FORGIVE YOU

Sorry my dear sister, but that is called "stubbornness", and "deception".

The "unforgiveable" sin is well documented in His Word, and no doubt if the Holy Spirit convicts us on something that we are doing and we don't take the corrective action on His Convinction, then we are in trouble. By ignoring the Holy Spirit, then you have committed the "unforgivable sin".

But, when you commit that sin, and you realise that you had done so, then will you confess and repent before HIM and asking HIM for forgiveness. Of course HE will forgive you, "Will HE?"

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

Yep mate, including those who believe that once save always saved and will have eternal life. I wonder what happens to their eternal life if they commit the unforgiveable sin? After all, His Word say that the "unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven"---will they?

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

Either I've plum missed your point...or you are speaking from another perspective? but......I do know one thing....those who don't believe are surely damned.

He Put Me Back Together,

This is the scripture I am referring to with no intention on declaring I have a definition...okay?...just a thought only......:) :

Luk 12:10And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him:but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.f

Let scripture help with understanding.

Jn 16:7-9
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness , and of judgment:

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
KJV

The Comforter or Holy Spirit's Job concerning the unsaved is described in the above scriptures.

Lk 12:10
And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
KJV

The word blashemeth is NT:987
Specifically, of those who by contemptuous speech intentionally come short of the reverence due to God or to sacred things (for gideep, 2 Ki 19:6,22.

NT:987

An unsaved person who by contemptuous speech not reverencing God's Son as the Redeemer of man would reject that same Redeemer, thereby not receiving Him as Saviour.

That is a sin and is unforgivable, therefore that person is destined for hell.
