  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am not sure that's true. Maybe it depends on the parish. Anyway, Barnabas Powell talks a little about it in this video:

We are home, but we have to wait until tomorrow when I get off work to go pick up our fur kids. Home just doesn't feel as much like home without my little girls.

You guys are going to help peel me up off the floor when one of them dies, right?

That's kind of sad to think. We've had the opposite experience. Missionary outreach that works well seems to include having talks at colleges, having booths at community fairs, volunteering at local food banks, reaching out to the community and more. It has been working for us, praise God, by His Grace. Orthodox missionary outreach isn't the same as many Protestant missionary outreach styles (especially Evangelical/ non-traditional ones), but it is important.

Heavens, NO!!! Remember that in EO theology we are taught that God exists outside of man's construct of time, and so just as "I have been saved, I am being saved, I hope to be saved!" it would be "the thread was not derailed, it is not being derailed, I hope it will not be derailed!"

This thread has no linear time! In this thread Huey Lewis, Elvis, Steely Dan, the Andrews Sisters, and Run DMC all play at the same time! There is no magnetic north! Superman still has shorts, the Dukes of Hazzard could actually have socially redeemable value, there is no lint in the drier, and Seinfeld-haters are instantly shot.

It's complicated here!

We could be talking about the Doors and the Who and then instantly switch to hot topics like Hungarian Cabinet-making or the history of twine. Like I said, it's complicated!

"Un-Derailable" reminds me of this old chestnut:

Back in the steam era, a certain local used to have to switch a lightly used spur line many, many years ago. The track conditions were horrible and the train would derail sometimes two or three times per week. Now, whenever this happened the conductor would wire in a very lengthy report. Finally, the superintendant told the conductor to make the reports as brief as possible so as not to tie up the telegraph line.

Well, the next time the train derailed (which was about two days later), the conductor sent the following message: "Train 57, off again - on again - gone again -FINNEGAN-

Awesome I will check that video out once I have spare time from studying for tests, I like a lot of what Barnabas Powell has to say, when I listen to AFR.

So...crazy crazy day. Yesterday, I was crossing the road along a crosswalk and a small suv (my friend, actually) turned in and her drivers side mirror hit into my bad shoulder. This was on work property so now there is a boatload of paperwork, meeting with our base police officers, doctor's visits, etc etc. I didn't want to have all this happen, but it did.
