  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Probably, St Nektarios had a few. The issue is why are deaconesses being used. To promote the Church, or secular agenda?

There are also misunderstandings of what a female deacon's role was. It was not a uniform office within the entire church. In some regions the office was a rarity and were appointed (not ordained) as needed.
Other areas never used them at all. In Constantinople they were "ordained" yet this never meant it was considered a major order. In the early church many places even ordained exorcists and readers but this should not be equated with holy orders.

While women can be utilized in ministry even appointed as spiritual mothers to other women and maybe even hear their confessions. Unfortunately today it's just being promoted by feminists who know nothing about the ancient order and in reality there is absolutely no demand for it. It was precisely because social attitudes changed between the sexes in the late byzantine empire that the order organically died out.

Now if by the grace of God the Church grows in a place like Saudi Arabia female deacon's would be required due to laws requiring segregation between men and women.

You know, I'm not a prude in the least. I've watched Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, The Americans, you name it. Sex scenes don't get me all worked up or mad, but I have to say....

My wife and I watched the first 4-5 episodes of Season One of Game of Thrones, and we were blown away by the gratuitous sex on there! It was like people having threesomes with midgets, naked people aimlessly walking around in the background, orgies just for the heck of it, and it just seemed to have a "sex quota" of some kind that was almost distracting from the story! It had an "ewww" factor even for me! LOL

Plus, I just couldn't get into the story really. I can't figure out why I just didn't care for it.

Ugh we got an email from someone at the Quaker meeting saying they want to have a Bible study after meeting for worship. At first, I thought they were going to be doing this every week, and the thought gave me a stomach ache. But, apparently, it's a once a month thing. I told Hubman that if he wants to do this - I expect that he'll actually come to the Orthodox church with me once a month and stay for the whole thing - instead of walking home half way through. I don't have the option of walking home when I've had enough of the Quaker meeting because it's over 1 hour away by car. I'm trapped there. Plus, unlike with the Quakers, nobody at the Orthodox church has ever been anything less than welcoming to my husband.

Ok so outside of prayer, Church, catching up on movies, and school I haven't had much to do, so I was watching some older Tyson fights. Anyone on here who watched older boxing can debate whether or not Mike Tyson in his prime is the greatest boxer ever? if anyone has YouTube and has free time type in Tyson v.s. Ruddock II from 1991, that might be the most intense boxing fight ever, and still holds up great after all these years, very super stiff hits from both guys!

Hilarious you bring this up. My youngest son and I were watching old Tyson fights just 3-4 nights ago!! The Buster Douglas KO was epic!! It was a pleasure to watch that thug go down!!!
