Your bible might say "snake", mine doesn't.

Snakes today are not the "kind" of snakes that existed in Genesis 1. The snakes (called "serpents") of Genesis 1 were "beasts of the field", and evidentally could communicate with Adam and Eve.

Due to the Fall, they eventually became the snakes of today.

:D

Better tell that to Ken Ham and AIG... their brilliant new museum portrays a very snake-like "serpent" giving advice to Eve.

Adam and Eve were punished for disobeying God. The result of that disobediance was that they became aware of the nature of good and evil in the world.
While I agree that they were punished for disobeying God, there are two questions the incident brings up.

1. Why did God not want his prize creation to learn the difference between good and evil? It seems He wanted Adam to remain in ignorance. What was Adam expected to accomplish without knowledge? Was he just supposed to keep God company in the Garden?

2. How was Adam to know that disobeying God was a sin? Afterall,he didn't know the difference between good and evil!

Genesis 3:17
"To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life."

This always interested me, because (if we take it as historical) it was the very first case where an entrapment defense was used by an accused person:

Gen 3:12 "And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree and I did eat."

Although such a defense would have merit in our society today, it held no weight with God! ^_^

Ken Ham is not the one pouting that science and the Bible are at odds with each other.
