What if they were asked to leave but remained, is that worthy of criminal prosecution?
As the capitol police chief stated, they were allowed entrance and given tours of the building, 6 officers were suspended, 35 others were under investigation, your what if "Fails"

The possible penalties for this (and other) crimes are written into the law, right?

So the time to contemplate that (and complain if appropriate) is before you commit the crime.
There were no crimes by those sentenced, they were allowed in the building and given tours as the capitol police chief states in the article above in post #20

No sir you have a one-track mind.
to one count of entering and remaining in a restricted building.
To remain in a restricted building you would have to be asked to leave.

Capitol Police Suspends 6 Officers, Investigates Dozens More After Capitol Riots

February 19, 2021

"The investigation into the January 6 attack remains under investigation. Our Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating the actions of 35 police officers from that day. We currently have suspended six of those officers with pay," the department said in a statement.

Capitol Police Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman further directed that any member whose behavior is not in keeping with the department's Rules of Conduct "will face appropriate discipline."

The department "has been actively reviewing video and other open source materials of some USCP officers and officials that appear to be in violation of Department regulations and policies," she said on Jan. 11.

Videos from the day of the attack appear to show some officers escorting rioters inside the building. In one video, USCP officers can be seen opening barricades allowing the mob to enter the Capitol complex without resistance.
That may be. But there were plenty who did break in. Not to mention those who were violent and/or destructive.

As for how that applies to each case specifically, well I haven't reviewed the evidence for each case specifically.

18 USC 1752(a)(1)

(a)Whoever—
(1)
knowingly enters or remains in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority to do so;

(b)The punishment for a violation of subsection (a) is—

(2)
a fine under this title or imprisonment for not more than one year, or both, in any other case.

(Fines:)

Section 3571 (b)Fines for Individuals.—Except as provided in subsection (e) of this section, an individual who has been found guilty of an offense may be fined not more than the greatest of—
(5)
for a Class A misdemeanor that does not result in death, not more than $100,000;

The largest sentence was 1/3rd of the maximum (120 days out of 365).
The largest fine was a few thousand dollars out of a maximum of $100,000

Some of the larger fines were imposed at the request of the DOJ because the defendants were raising money on their crimes. The $525 "base" level is a $500 restitution to the Architect of the Capitol for repairs and cleanup and a $25 "court fee".

Some officers were complicit in the insurrection? That's not surprising.

Many of the attendees sentenced were allowed by the lawful authoriy (Capitol Police) to enter and remain in the Capitol building, the police removed barricades allowing entrance, and they gave capitol escorts as the capitol police chief stated

Your claim is false, the largest sentence presented was 6 months, and the largest fine was $10,000 a massive fine in anybody book

Everyone of those charged persons was inside the Capitol. No one in any authority aided the entering of the Capitol. (And it is entering *or* remaining.)

Once again capitol police in authority removed barricades and capitol police in authority gave escorts inside the building just as the capitol police chief stated, yes tgey were allowed to enter and remain in the building by the capitol police in authority

We're in the realm of redundancy at this point

Thanks for making my point. They did not have the authority. Yes, officers who let people in should have been arrested or at minimum, fired.

They absolutely are not.

A tour of The Capital involves getting in touch with a state rep where an intern or a docent takes you on a tour, or going through their official program at the door or through reservations and then a docent takes a small number of people through a very clear and structured route.

It is not random police taking hundreds of people through the building wherever. And the tour ends with you getting a cookie and a flag pin, not with people saying “let’s go to the floor and lynch Pence for being a traitor and hold Pelosi hostage.”

Like, there’s revisionist history, then there’s flat out delusion and gas lighting. “They were on a tour” is the latter, not the former.
