Trump's approval rating in Texas--50%

Congress House members---25 Republican, 12 Democrat (68% Republican)

Texas State House: 88 Republicans, 62 Democrats (59% Republican)

Texas State Senate: 19 Republicans, 12 Democrats (61% Republican)

Here's the shocker: Party affiliation among Texas registered voters
Party Registration Statistics
  • Total Registered Voters: 17,323,617
  • Democrats: 8,054,976 (46.50%)
  • Republicans: 6,574,201 (37.95%)
  • Third Party/Other: 0 (0.00%)
  • Unaffiliated: 2,694,440 (15.55%)
It seems as if Texas is already far more gerrymandered than fairness, common sense, or the wishes of the Founding Fathers would dictate. This purple state should be redistricted to bring fairness and equal representation to the voting process.

Yup, here is some more truth.

Is there a precedent for this action to happen? Yes

Is it within the parameters of a state body to do this? Yes.

Has it been done in another state? Yes, the Democrats just did it recently in Illinois.

Should we have equality and fairness from state to state? Yes

Is it moral when the imbalance is already so great to do further harm? No. Is it ethical? No.

So if it's the 'truth about Texas' and it's not also the 'truth about a whole bunch of Democrat controlled states' I might wonder whether you are being partisan.

Texas isn't "purple". You try to blame gerrymandering, but gerrymandering doesn't affect statewide races, and Democrats as far as I can tell haven't won a single statewide office in the last 30 years. Trump won it decisively in 2024--he actually did better in Texas than Harris did in New York. It makes no sense to refer to Texas as a purple state.

Sure, gerrymandering might make the Republican legislative majority in Texas even bigger. But Republicans would have control of Texas even with completely fair maps.

It has been done much more aggressively in red states, particularly NC, when an anti-democracy professor developed his super cheat formula in 2009.

And gerrymandering occurs after census years--not to cheat voters.

What do you propose as a solution to gerrymandering?
I would imagine one could write a program that respected county and municipal lines, factored in population density, and minimized border lengths in relation to area of districts. It should be able to spit out something not gerrymandered. Lawmakers would scream.

Or ask AI to solve it? Screams would turn to howls.

I'm not a fan of AI. I still think a smart programmer can do things AI only hallucinates about.

It would need to be an open source code, where the whole thing was transparent.

An open source formula for determining districts would be far more objective than anything we have now. But that's only if you assume that people want fair districts. In reality, both parties want gerrymandering that benefits them.

There is always Utah. A ballot initiative in 2018 set up an independent commission that would set up the voting districts. In 2020, the commission met and submitted their maps, which under the law was supposed to be approved by the legislature. Instead, the legislature received the maps and completely ignored them, creating their own gerrymandered maps and passing it. Now it is being fought in the courts.

You have to "love" when citizens vote to change the law, the legislature decides they don't like the people's decision and ignore it, or pass new laws to overrule the will of the people.

The party in power want's to gerrymander. The party out of power complains about it.
