I remember this thread from back in the day, and shipping off a doinky camera with memory card to a long gone CFer. And I thought I would make here another one in case anyone's interested. How it works is someone will start by obtaining a memory card that will work in most smart phones while other posters suggest things to take pictures of. Then the first person (that's me) who has the memory card will take as many pictures that posters suggest in this thread. Then after I'm done I will ship the memory card off to the next person who wants to participate and it will their turn to do the same thing before shipping it off to the next person in line. Meanwhile, posters can keep suggesting things for the memory card holder to capture while in possession of it.

So..Anyone down for some traveling camera?

Interesting idea. Do you think it is a good idea to encourage people to share their personal information with strangers on the internet?
Well, the way this would work is users would only send off the memory card to people they PM and know.
So this would assume there's at least an air of trust in the exchange between the parties. Not full proof, but definitely safer than letting any Tom, Dick, or Harry get your info.

Memory cards are cheap and sharing pictures is easy. Why would you compromise your safety when other methods exist?

~Bella
I guess I don't see it as such a huge security risk.
But i suppose you're right.

Location data can be embedded in an image. I think its wise to be prudent with the information you disclose to strangers.

Our information is so accessible anyway. It's a well-known fact that the gatekeepers hold nearly all our data anyway. All it takes for anyone to find this out is to pay any of the data collectors and it's theirs for the right amount of money. I've thought long and hard about the ethics of this because my future web startups are going to center heavily on this area. And I've come to
the conclusion that if you're offering a service free of charge to the end-user then it's okay to data collect per they sign off on the ToS. It's really a
good debate though. And of course there are extremes companies can go to to breach privacy but that's for another day.

I understand data collection and use it in my work. But that’s a far cry from handing my address to a stranger on a forum. Familiarity can breed a false sense of security.

And if I wouldn’t do it for the stranger I see in person. Why on earth would I do for the one I’ve never met?

That's up to you. Like I said in my OP, there have been people who've given me their details from here before. It just depends on the person. God does give us discernment as well as common sense.

As a woman, I should be more discriminating. Don’t you think? :)

~Bella
Haha. The first person to give me their address on here was a woman. So there you go. She was bit of a free spirit with a lot of spunk though. I'd often ask her similar questions like you posed to me. Especially after she would post about room sharing with strangers off Craigslist. Lol.

And yes, she is a genuine believer that trusted God for her protection. I think that's what this comes down to the most. Her tag line was, 'I'm going to love you like nobody has seen.'

I miss her posts. Alas, she got married to a guy who loves her, has had a child. So life moves on. One day it will for me too. In the meantime, if I could only love like that gal did here, I'd be a much better man.

I don’t risk haphazardly. There must be a payoff and an equitable measure of investment. There are things I’ll do for some and not for others.

When there’s a similar level of risk on both ends the proposition is more appealing than if I’m the lone one with skin in the game. There’s a thrill that comes with higher stakes. Those are the sort that interest me.

I like the idea, but yeah it's too much of a security risk. Perhaps shipping to a P.O. box would be a better alternative, but I doubt many on here use one.

It does give me a good idea for a thread though we can try, based on the concept.

I guess I don't see it as such a huge security risk.

We have members here who gave us a good idea how much $$ they make per year and how much properties they own. If you knew their address...

And I think your previous title (a social experiment), and type of threads you made in the past that can be used to profile forum members is too uncanny for me to trust you!:p

I didn't. You were already using the title "social..." when I first saw singles forum.

We just need to be careful. Many ways of discovering someone's sensitive info like passwords, bank accounts, credit card info, ss #, just by knowing their address. You don't even need to be a hacker nor someone who works in the government to find out those things.
