True good point, technically it's always in the sky though. Just like the moon always is. You just can't always see it.

That's interesting in that "sky" must necessarily refer to what is seen from Earth's perspective, right?

The sun is not as bright as a lot of stars if seen from the same distance; it's only appears brightest because it is the closest.

The sky is relative to the observer. It is the portion of the atmosphere visible from any point on land or sea. If it is night, by definition, the sun is not in the sky where you are located.

And you can see the moon in the daytime half the time . It’s just that people don’t pay attention to it. I remember how shocked I was around age 10 when I realized that the moon was right over my head in the middle of the afternoon. My sister’s friend refused to believe it was the moon “because the moon only shows up at night!” Reality has a way of trumping superstitious folk tales unless you’re so in love with the tale that you deny reality.

Strictly speaking, that depends on the time of year and location of the observer. If you're north of the Arctic Circle (66.5° N. latitude and above) the sun doesn't drop below the horizon on northern summer solstice (June 20-21.) So--assuming clear skies--it is the brightest celestial object. It's why far northern regions are called the Land of the Midnight Sun. The opposite is true in the southern hemisphere. If you're below the Antarctic Circle (66.5° S. latitude and below) the sun doesn't drop below the horizon on the southern summer solstice (Dec. 21-22.)

The definition of night is the period from sunset to sunrise. Since the sun doesn't set at those times and places, strictly speaking there is no night. The sun can never be seen in the night sky.
