Yes he fell into serious sin, as many of us do as well. Accepting him back in church after he shows sign of genuine repentance is one thing, accepting him back as a church leader is quite another. 1 Timothy 3:1-7 - ESVBible.org

Especially note this verse: Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.
(1 Timothy 3:7)
I have seen interviews of Bentley from secular news journalists on youtube; his reputation puts Christians in a bad light. I'll leave that topic alone now.

That is a wonderful testimony and shows prayers CAN be answered by God!

This would be an *excellent* topic for you to discuss with more Christians in the apologetics section. Christian nerds love discussions about discernment etc. :)

This quote from a famous classic evangelist :
Discernment is not simply a matter of telling the difference between what is right and wrong; rather it is the difference between right and almost right. Charles Spurgeon

How will you learn that? Only by careful study of the bible and comparing what a preacher says with what the bible actually says.

That does take time and effort but for your own spiritual well-being it is definitely worth it.

On a positive note, a few months ago I reviewed some of what I myself had written about five years ago and I was just shaking my head at how ignorant I had been back then on so many subject!

I guess it is a good sign if in only five years God shows us the areas where we are significantly off in the wrong direction!!!

My question is: How do you tell apart genuinely enchanted preachers from those that are just putting on a show for money? For instance (hypothetically), many people here would have argued that Peter Popoff and Benny Hinn were genuinely inspired and gifted preachers before they were proven to be frauds/cons ? Many Christians still believe Peter Popoff. It boggles my mind.

Hopefully, none of them are enchanted.

But telling the true from the false is simple: check their doctrine.

Lol. I couldn't think of a better adjective to describe what I was seeing in that video. Possessed? "under the influence of a powerful force, such as a spirit or strong emotion"

Isn't it still possible for a preacher to fake it even if his doctrine is legitimate? Like hypothetically, If I was charismatic and a good enough actor I could pull that off.

My wife went to two Benny Hinn crusades, one in Bogota Colombia and the second one in her home city of Quito, Ecuador.

In Colombia as he was walking up to the podium Pastor Hinn walked over to my wife who was at or near the front, and he gave her a prophecy that God was going to give her a foreign husband and that she was going to travel all over the world working for Jesus!

He said that her husband would go with her!

Gracias a Dios for this prophecy because it prepared her to be married to me, a Canadian who lived about 4000 or 5000 miles or so from her home in Ecuador!

My wife also had a dream where she would be given a daughter named Abigayl...Abby is now nine years of age!!!! This prophecy was confirmed by somebody in her church the next day after she had this dream.

I was a Christian for thirty years before I knew anything about this movement but now I know that I am an ignorant twit who used to condemn these people but wow....did God every prove me to be horribly WRONG!!!!!!

Im not anti-Christian, but I am very much against the charlantry practiced by the likes of Benny Hinn. It makes my blood boil when I see good, honest, and often desperate people swindled out of their hard-earned money by these frauds.

In 2004, CBC Television did a special “Do You Believe In Miracles” detailing many transgressions and sins committed by Benny Hinn’s scam. They used hidden cameras and many crusade attendees to show that Benny Hinn lied, misappropriated church funds for his personal use (it took a government investigation to force him to implement some reforms. Much of the money from his ministry still feeds his lavish lifestyle), and used security guards dressed as church members in suits to keep truly ill audience members from approaching the stage. Using extensive interviews they showed that people with outwardly obvious illnesses, such as cerabral palsy and paralysis, were not allowed to come to the stage to be healed. And those that do get up front are "rehearsed" on how to fall back gracefully when "healed." This is all documented on video.

Benny Hinn falsely predicted that all the homosexuals in America would die by fire in the late 1990's. Benny Hinn has confessed that there are 9 beings within the Godhead. 3 beings (Tritheism) each having their own trinity of beings within each. Benny Hinn teaches word-faith doctrine. Benny Hinn stated on TBN that after his crusade in South America in 2002, that he was certain that he would return to America with video footage of Jesus appearing on stage during the crusades, because Jesus had told him this was going to happen. Hinn also stated that very soon people would no longer need to take their deceased loved ones to the morgue. Instead, stated Hinn, they should be placed in front of the television during the airing of TBN and they would rise from the dead. It goes on…

Have you ever heard of the term "self-fulfilling prophecy"?

Given? You mean your wife gave birth to a daughter? You have a 1 in 2 chance of having a girl. You guys chose to name her Abigayl? If I correctly predict that my pizza will be delivered late, has prophecy been fulfilled?

Actually no, because at the time the prophecy was given one tube was blocked and if I remember correctly the other one was cut after her second son. The probability of Maria and I having a baby girl was no where nearly one chance in two.....it was a lot closer to zero...but just the right doctor came by with just the right procedure at just the right time......plus God helped her in many other ways that defy probability!

I'm glad that you guys were able to have a child, really. However, it sounds like the forces at work here is not Benny Hinn, but rather western medicine. If this was truly a miracle, why not let Benny Hinns magic do its work without resorting to doctors etc. Your account reminds me of someone who once said "I was on the brink of death, but god miraculously healed me with the help of antibiotics." Second, how can you still have faith in someone that has been proven to be a charlatan (see preceding post)? I believe that the bible has a particular name for those who make prophecies that are false in the name of Jesus- False Prophets.

Logical points Beastmaster. I don't blame you for thinking this way but at this time I have been introduced to another factor that can factor heavily in the whole process. Some prophecies are aimed to get us stirred up, inspire us to pray more and make some changes and voila the danger is at least delayed if not avoided altogether!

As to why God would use doctors at all, well, in a sense all miracles may be the application of technology, it is just that miracles are the application of technology by beings who exist in higher dimensions of space-time that you and I cannot ordinarily perceive?!

Beastmaster, what do you think of the report by Dr. George Ritchie that he was shown life continuing in four higher dimensions of space-time above our realm?!

Personally I believe that what Dr. Ritchie says fits perfectly with String Theory?!

Rick Joyner is a heretic and an enemy of the Gospel.

If we were still living in Old Testament times, Joyner would have been stoned to death long ago.

My old mentor Garner Ted Armstrong had an insightful saying that the one being tortured or stoned or burned at the stake....was always in spiritually better shape than the one doing the torturing, or stoning!

"The Lifestyle Of A Street Man," is an inspiring short story taken from, "Reminisces Of Happy Times," by Robert Wiley, 2008.
YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

Good morning said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on the ground.

The man slowly looked up.

This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new.. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.

His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.. "Leave me alone," he growled....

To his amazement, the woman continued standing.

She was smiling -- her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. "Are you hungry?" she asked.

"No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just come from dining with the president. Now go away."

The woman's smile became even broader. Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand under his arm.

"What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me alone.

Just then a policeman came up. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked..

"No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get this man to his feet. Will you help me?"

The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?"

"See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him something to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile."

"Are you crazy, lady?" the homeless man resisted. "I don't want to go in there!" Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. "Let me go, officer. I didn't do anything."

"This is a good deal for you, Jack" the officer answered. "Don't blow it.."

Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch bunch had not yet arrived...

The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. "What's going on here, officer?" he asked. "What is all this, is this man in trouble?"

"This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered.

"Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that here is bad for business.."

Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll let me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place."

The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled....... "Sir, are you familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?"

"Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms."

"And do you make a godly amount of money providing food at these weekly meetings?"

"What business is that of yours?"

I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company."

"Oh."

The woman smiled again. "I thought that might make a difference." She glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. "Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?"

"No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty."

"Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?"

"Yes, ma’am. That would be very nice."

The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, "I'll get your coffee for you right away, officer."

The officer watched him walk away. "You certainly put him in his place," he said.

"That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this."

She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest. She stared at him intently.. "Jack, do you remember me?"

Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. "I think so -- I mean you do look familiar."

"I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry."

"Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.

"I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat."

Jack lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said.. "I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy."

"I know," the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble... Then, when I looked over and saw you put the price of my food in the cash register, I knew then that everything would be all right."

"So you started your own business?" Old Jack said.

"I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my own business that, with the help of God, prospered." She opened her purse and pulled out a business card.. "When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons...He's the personnel director of my company. I'll go talk to him now and I'm certain he'll find something for you to do around the office." She smiled. "I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet... If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you."

There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thank you?" he said.

"Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. Thank Jesus...... He led me to you."

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways....

"Thank you for all your help, officer," she said.

"On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. "Thank you. I saw a miracle today, something that I will never forget. And.. And thank you for the coffee."

God is going to shift things around for you today and let things work in your favor.

If you believe, send it.

If you don't believe, delete it.

God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close..

If you need God to open some doors for you...send this on.

And if you or I could talk to the Apostle Paul right now he might tell us that you are correct..........and that there was a time in his life when he might have assisted in stoning Pastor Rick.......but if you were to meet with the Apostle Paul right now......I am sure he would tell you that Pastor Rick is being gifts that are an indication of the Awakening predicted at Azuza Street!!!!

http://www.christianforums.com/t7729785/

Moved -I feel I am guilty of making an idol out of the Apostle Paul???!!
I am certain that I went through a phase of making Mr. Garner Ted Armstrong into something of an idol. Very probably on those occasions when I was a teenager and listened to some of his messages for the third or fourth time in one evening.....I probably would have been much better off to have read some of the Bible or better yet....pray!!!!!!

I also am certain that I have made something of an idol out of the life and ministry of the Apostle Paul......

There is nothing in the following writing that I can really disagree with:

The Apostles Advice

I then felt compelled to look at those who were sitting on the thrones we were passing. As I did, my gaze fell upon a man I knew was the apostle Paul. As I looked back at the Lord, He motioned for me to speak to him.

“I have so looked forward to this,” I said, feeling awkward but excited by this meeting. “I know that you are aware of how much your letters have guided the church, and they are probably still accomplishing more than all the rest of us put together. You are still one of the greatest lights on earth.”

“Thank you,” he said graciously. “But you do not understand just how much we have looked forward to meeting all of you. You are soldiers in the last battle; you are the ones everyone here is waiting to meet. We only saw these days dimly through our limited prophetic vision, but you have been chosen to live in them. You are soldiers preparing for the last battle. You are the ones we have all been waiting for.”

Still feeling awkward, I continued, “But there is no way that I can convey the appreciation we feel for you and for the others who helped set our course with their lives and their writings. I also know we will have an eternity for exchanging our appreciation, so please, while I am here, let me ask, ‘What would you say to my generation that will help us in this battle?”

“I can only say to you now what I have already said to you through my writings,” Paul stated, looking me resolutelyin the eyes. “However, you will understand them better if you realize that I fell short of all that I was called to do.”

38

“But you are here, on one of the greatest thrones!” I protested. “You are still’ reaping more fruit for eternal life than any of us could ever hope to reap.”

“By the grace of God I was able to finish my course, but I still did not walk in all that I was called to. I fell short of the highest purposes I could have walked in—everyone has. I know that some would practically consider it blasphemy to think of me as anything less than the greatest example of Christian ministry, yet I was being honest when I wrote near the end of my life that I was the greatest of sinners. I was not saying that I had been the greatest of sinners, but rather that I was the greatest of sinners then. Even though I had been given so much understanding, I walked in comparatively little of it.”

“How could that possibly be?” I asked. “I thought you were just being humble.”

“True humility is agreement with the truth. Do not fear. My letters were true, and they were written by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. However, I was given so much, and I did not use all that I was given. I, too, fell short. Everyone here has fallen short, except One. The reason you must see this particularly about me is that many are still distorting my teachings, because they have a distorted view of me.”

“As you saw the progression in my letters, I went from feeling that I was not inferior to even the most eminent apostles, to acknowledging that I was the least of the apostles. I then saw that I was the least of the saints, and finally that I was the greatest of sinners. I was not just being humble, but I was speaking sober truth. I was entrusted with much more than I used. There is only One here who fully believed, who fully obeyed, and who truly finished all that He was given to do. But you can walk in much more than I did.”

Rediscovering the Foundation

Rather feebly, I replied, “I know that what you are saying is true, but are you sure this is the most important message you could give to us for the last battle?”

“I am sure!” he replied with utter conviction. “I so appreciate the grace of the Lord to use my letters as He has, but I am concerned with the way many of you are using them improperly. They are the truth of the Holy Spirit and they are Scripture. The Lord did give me great stones to set into the structure of His eternal church, but they are not foundation stones. The foundation stones were laid by Jesus alone. My life and ministry are not the example of what you are called to be; Jesus alone is that.

I personally have a very very different background than Pastor Rick Joyner.

If I had read his book The Vision back in 1988, well frankly, I might not have finished it even if somebody had given it to me as a gift?!?!

Then again I got into the habit of reading a lot as a child so I might have read it. Even at this time there are statements in Rick Joyner's writings that make almost no sense to me whatsoever! Here is an example:

The following two sentences make almost no sense to me whatsoever:

Say what????????????!!!!!!!!

How in the world could "human compass be just as contrary to Rabbi Jesus/Yehoshua as human oppression???????????????????"

I do actually understand why so many people find the writings of Rick Joyner offensive!!!!

I do too but I am open to the idea that many of the highly offensive things he writes may be in the league of some of the offensive statements made to people during near death experience accounts. At the time of the Apostle Paul some of these things might well be "unlawful to be uttered" but.....we are now living in the time period when the full plan of God can finally be understood.....even the wrath of God which to my thinking has much to do with His astonishing and deep and sophisticated sense of humor!!!!

I wonder what kind of an article this guy would have written:

Mark 5 (Blue Letter Bible: KJV - King James Version)

Mar 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
And they that fed the swine fled, and told [it] in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
And they that saw [it] told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and [also] concerning the swine.
And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all [men] did marvel."

And so is this:

The Hordes of Hell are Marching

The Evil Army

I saw a demonic army so large that it stretched as far as I could see. It was separated into divisions, with each carrying a different banner. The foremost and most powerful divisions were Pride, Self righteousness, Respectability, Selfish Ambition, and Unrighteous Judgment, but the largest of all was Jealousy. The leader of this vast army was the Accuser of the Brethren himself. I knew that there were many more evil divisions beyond my scope of vision, but these were the vanguard of this terrible horde from hell that was now being released against the church.

The weapons carried buy this horde had names on them: the swords were named Intimidation; the spears were named Treachery; and their arrows were named Accusations, Gossip, Slander and Faultfinding. Scouts and smaller companies of demons with such names as Rejection, Bitterness, Impatience, Unforgiveness and Lust were sent in advance of this army to prepare for the main attack. I knew in my heart that the church had never faced anything like this before.

The main assignment of this army was to cause division. It was sent to attack every level of relationship-churches with each other, congregations with their pastors, husbands and wives, children and parents, and even children with each other. The scouts were sent to locate the openings in churches, families or individuals that rejection, bitterness, lust, etc., could exploit and make a larger breech for the divisions that were coming.

The most shocking part of this vision was that this horde was not riding on horses, but on Christians! Most of them were welldressed, respectable, and had the appearance of being refined and educated. These were Christians who had opened themselves to the powers of darkness to such a degree that the enemy could use them and they would think that they were being used by God. The Accuser knows that a house divided cannot stand, and this army represented his ultimate attempt to bring such complete division to the church that she would completely fall from grace

I saw lots of groups with names of different sins and their bad sins. Even Satan was there! I must be realllly important for him to turn up!

The weapons carried buy this horde had names on them: the swords were named Intimidation; the spears were named Treachery; and their arrows were named Accusations, Gossip, Slander and Faultfinding.
These weapons all had names that aren't in the bible, but that doesn't matter. They sound impressive so it had to be true.
The most shocking part of this vision was that this horde was not riding on horses, but on Christians!
All these meanies I saw aren't people who DONT believe in Jesus. These meanies are nasty Christians who are close minded bible-bashers* and dont need my visions like nice Christians always do**.

*2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

**a close-minded "meanie" who would rather divide over truth than give false unity/peace to lies. Something that non-Christians and low-bible usage Christians won't understand.

In our soceity we hinge content on the credablity of the witness, or how this information was obtained, rather than taking the message and judging it's content. Which was secondary lesson in this story. (In that God would have use some of these side walk preachers to pull his church together, but because they did not have a pedagree they are shunned and ignored.)

With any True message or 'revelation' From God, the messenger is of little importance. It is the message we should look at. This is why it is so desperatly important that we know our bibles. So that we can turn to it Because otherwise we are subject to the intentions of a messenger, and his hidden intentions. (Which education, status and esteem have no bearing on.) Look at how these 'qualities' are exaulted in our educational system and also look at the coruption and hidden agendas they push under the guiles of being 'properly educated.' So just because a man presents himself with those qualities does not mean he does not have a hidden agenda..

I don't know the author of this book nor do I really care. I take it though that you see him as a benny henn type. Even so God uses these guys despite their potentially self serving efforts. We must learn to seperate the message from the messenger and examine what was said rather than putting so much importance on who said it. or how they intend to use the revelation given them.

This goes into another question you asked would the devil give such a good message to someone looking to serve him rather than God? The answer is yes. This is a simple half truth. The message is the 1/2 true part and things like this are often paired with other messages or an open agenda to push another doctrine or a line of thought, that would not stand on it's own merrit. Again however, if we learn to seperate the message from the messenger then we can reclaim the truth of God's revelation away from the person who would use it for his own gain and give it back to God. Which all comes back to knowing your bible so you can identify God's truth in a message like this.

Perhaps God would have had more fun giving the off the scale physical strength that he gave to Samson…… to a little old woman or little old man……… but it was easier to get the Danite Samson to accept these gifts……………….. I think God also enjoys working through people that we would tend to not expect Him to use!
