No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can you please provide evidence to back up this statement. How exactly was the 1st century a time of unequalled distress since the beginning of time?
Was it worse than the flood of Noah's day?
Was it worse than the black death of the 14th century?
Was it worse than the two world wars of the 20th century?

Relative to what Jerusalem could have been, I can see why he said it. It stands in relation to the needless tragedy that it was.
the passage is inextricable from its 1st century Judean setting. It also contains expressions like 'the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world' and Paul says it was in Col. 1 and these things also seem to be relative to their times. It meant the rapid dispersal of the Gospel after Pentecost and then the apostles. I've never heard anyone say Jesus had amnesia about the flood, but he had no problem saying this would be worse than that.
Our first task as interpreters is to find how these things sounded to the original audience. For ex., there are not many cases of maternal cannibalism that I know of, but it happened in the siege, making 24:29 very poignant. Who needs to have a bun-fight about 'the worst night of history' when you're pregnant or nursing and the commander of the city says children are to be eaten because the resistance needs food?
In reading Josephus, commentators are often tracing his own political manipulations. However, there are other things that happen that have no manipulation value. He said he heard an awful roar from the city (he was outside with the Roman army) and also that he saw a huge white sword come down from above and into it.
They are about the only 'paranormal' things he mentions the whole time; he was not given to unecessary embellishments. I mention this because like much of OT prophecy, the outcome is not quite the same as the utterance. Jesus' description of bizarre things that would happen was meant to protect his people; laboratory-tested accuracy did not seem to matter.
"Vultures" was slang for the mascot Roman eagle as used by Jewish rebels from way back starting with Judas the Galilean in 6 AD. Jesus borrowed this when he said 'where there is a carcass...' (the dying Israel) in 24:28.
Just as a reminder, the temple was already declared desolate in ch 23. This is why there is a reference to the AofD and why it would happen shortly. The declaration of ch 23 was made because his followers had sung 'Blessed is he...' and were told to shut up by the leaders of Judaism.
Futurism is a huge distraction to actually seeing the original events in their clarity and contradiction.

Interplanner, I do not believe that the Tribulation is already past or that it is symbolic of some other time frame because there is too much evidence that it is exactly what it says in the Bible.

The flight of Judea should coincide with Passover and Unleavened Bread since that was the time of fleeing during the Exodus, and we know that the Tribulation is the "Greater Exodus".

the disciples were asking about the doom of the temple. There was quite a tribulation for that generation.

After receiving recognition to upgrade their status at the UN from being an ‘observer’ to a ‘non-member state’, the Palestinians have been posting signs throughout the West Bank which say, ‘State of Palestine: internationally recognized – November 29, 2012.’ In response to the Palestinians upgrade at the UN General Assembly, Israel initially announced that they would build 3,000 homes in the West Bank and Jerusalem. This has now been followed by an announcement to build an additional 1,500 homes.
Nabil Abu Rudeina, a spokesman for acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, said the PA was about to take “important and necessary measures against Israel’s settlement building, including recourse to the UN Security Council, to prevent implementation of these decisions.” At the Security Council, 14 of the 15 current members of the UN Security Council issued statements which condemned Israel’s announcement to build Jewish homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Only the US didn’t make a statement through the Security Council. Instead the US condemnation came from the US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland which called the decision a ‘provocation’. British foreign secretary, William Hague, called all Israeli settlements “illegal under international law.”

When did YHWH leave His place?
Who, being in the form of ELOHIYM, thought it not robbery to be equal with EL: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Phil 2:6-7
YHWH left His place when He took upon flesh and gave Himself a ransom for many.
And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Phil 2:8
After Two Days > But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with YHWH as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Pet 3:8
YHWH YESHUA prophesied that He would return to His place for 2,000 years
In the third day, Messianic Era Covenant of Peace, 1000 year Reign
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Matthew 24:22

A Year for a Day.... 390 years for the house of Israel
And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. Lev 26:18
And if ye walk contrary unto Me, and will not hearken unto Me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins. 26:21
Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins. 26:24
Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. 26:28
390 years x 7 = 2730 years
The House of Israel, the Northern Kingdom was uprooted from the land completely by Assyria in 721 B.C. > 721 B.C. + 2009 A.D. = 2730 Years = Completed in 2009, the start of seventieth week

The Red Horse of War
Judah was prophesied to return to their homes first in the last days, the House of David, and then All the nations would come against them to Part His Land by a Vote.
That is Exactly what happened on 11/29/2012
