I'm using broadband so never had issues with either. I will have to say, are you having troubles with the front page or is it all of ebay? It might just be too high resolution photos on the items slowing it down and that's not ebay's fault but the submitter of the item.

Jumping, I didn't realize CF's front page takes that long to load up on Firefox. I don't understand that at all. To me it seems reasonably fast even on 56K dialup.

Simplicity -- I must agree with you. I have dial-up, yeah its outta style but the price is right PeoplePC. And CF shows page to page pretty fast. They have a few problems showing the new pictures of our armour/character. My slow site is Dogpile.com, the search engine. I can get some water, start laundry, and make coffee. and then there it is.

i dunno if cf.com uses java or something, but it even kills firefox sometimes... i don't find other sites doing that...

The Java chat window is murder on Firefox. After I figured out how to minimized it for good, the front page loaded much faster. The rest of the site is pretty fast too, unless I run into someone with one of those scripted coundown signatures. I had sigs disabled for a very long time because of that.

well you live in south africa. Any kind of server across seas you'll get around 3kb. You're lucky to get a good 50.

in terms of slow operation this website takes the cake...

Odd. I have a 56k dial up, with actual running speed of 26k, and Christian Forums is one of the fastest websites I visit. The front page takes maybe 10 seconds (ussing firefox). The ebay "sign in" page, however, takes about 2-3 minutes.

nintendo.com is pretty slow as well, but not too bad.

My vote goes to www.bincrawler.com (the alt.binaries search page). At times I wonder if the site has gone off-line permanently, but it does seem to - e v e n t u a l l y - come up.
Sheesh, no kidding.. Just to check it out, with rather fast DSL, it took about 1 min, and the came up.. Oddly, there's nothing on the page, it's near empty! I wonder if it rechecks the search database each time, or if they just have pathetic servers...
Even with DSL, ebay for me is slow.. Well, not slow, maybe 5 seconds...:) But, that's significantly slower than near instant for most pages. Also, on the Mac, internet explorer is incredibly slow... Google takes time, people, and I have DSL... I don't know why, but it's horrid... I use Safari.:)
www.apple.com/safari
I have noticed, oddly, www.dilbert.com takes a while to load.

I think CF has slowed significantly with all the new stuff they keep adding (I would rather just have a fast forum site than a slow forum/bible/chat/etc. portal), but basically any website that uses Flash takes the cake.

A big part of the reason for this is Erwin's involvement in vBulletin development (he runs vbulletin.org). So he is constantly adding new features to CF so that he can test them, make sure they work, make sure he's familiar with them, etc.
