  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's a solution to overcrowded prisons: STOP BREAKING THE LAW. Anyone who sells crack knows what they are doing is wrong, and that they have a strong likelihood of getting caught. The idea that lack of opportunity in the inner city forces youth into drug dealing and gangs is hogwash.

No matter where you live, you are eligible for the same college financial aid to get a degree, get a skill, and get a life. If you put half as much effort into getting a job and getting a life than it takes to be in a gang, you would have a more rewarding and successful life.

Even the bottom 5% of Americans have a higher standard of living than 68% of the world's people. There's a lot for law-abiding citizens to be thankful for. If you really want to drive around with an AK-47, blasting loud music and doing drive bys, move to Somalia and see how that works out for you.

my brother's one single felony for arson has cost him more chances at jobs than anything. Not many people want to hire former convicts.

I didn't address whether or not it's hard for offenders to get a job after being incarcerated. My point was that being born in the inner city is not an excuse for committing crimes in the first place.

...or we could take the drug trade out of the hands of criminals and stop creating crimes without an aggrieved party.

If you look at the effects of crack, meth, heroine, etc., I don't see a huge difference between drug dealers and murderers. And gang members do more crimes than just selling drugs.

You forgot one, alcohol.

And gang members do more crimes than just selling drugs.

For which it is approbate to prosecute them, unlike "crimes" where all involved consent to the exchange.

What? You calling the elephant fat?

I would never insult the physique of a pachyderm, I am just making mention of how little the tusker seems to move around.

Even if drugs like heroine, meth, etc. were legal, do you think that gangs would care to get the permits? Wouldn't there still be a black market for these drugs?

Do you buy your alcohol from bootleggers?
