A preacher's son once told me this as it pertains to Christians and church. He said most messed up Christians went to church and even had high positions there in part because they were so messed up. Is this so? Is it moral/ethical?

Sometimes I can´t help the impression that quite a few of them are here on CF.The sickest people are in the hospitals...

So the Christians who go to church and who have "high positions" are messed up? I take it the preacher's son didn't have a great relationship with his dad.

Hi Autumn.
I'm still trying to figure out whether or not you're a troll.
Hi Autumn.

Messed up Christians go to church, true. Christians (if they have a fuller understanding of the basics of the faith) understand that they are not in relationship with God simply because of what a great person they are or how many good things they've done, but purely by the grace of God that covers our "messed up-ed-ness", or sin, or failings of their humanity.
People in leadership are messed up, just as people in the congregation are messed up, just as the greatest Christian leaders who have ever lived (with the exception of Jesus Himself) were messed up.
Regarding the words of your friend...
I get the impression that either you or him misunderstood what his preacher dad's words, or that his preacher dad didn't articulate it properly. If you quoted him in your heading, then i am pretty sure that he meant that Christians aren't morally superior to anyone else, just messed up normal people, but the difference is, they acknowledge their need for the grace of God. Jesus said "It is the sick who need a doctor, not the healthy", explaining why He hung out with sinners.
But if your understanding is accurate, i'm not quite sure why he would do that, but then, i'm not quite sure why Jesus chose some of the disciples He chose either.
I am curious about things that most people take for granted one way or another. For that they often call me a troll, often coming from both sides of the argument...
I took it to mean that many Christians are more 'messed up' than people who don't go to church. Especially in the case of very devout people who go to church. Without church and the structure it gives them who knows what they would be like. I'm not sure if I agree with this appraisal, which is why I brought it here for discussion.
Anyway, as i said, Christians are people who know and admit that they are messed up, and therefore need Jesus to reconcile us to God because our works, or "non-messed-upped-ness" cannot.
