Let's see, verse 5 in Matthew's OD:
5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
This is not merely an imminent warning; this is addressed to anyone living in this age.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Again, this is addressed to anyone in this age.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
Again, this is addressed to anyone in this age.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

Again, this is addressed to anyone in this age all the way up to verse 15, when the transition occurs in which he addresses the "first question."
There isn't one verse of Matthew 24:4-14 that addresses the "first question."
Don't know what you mean about be being a futurist. You're confused: what we have in the OD is telescoping, which allows for imminent and distant interpretation of passages. My interpretation that some passages are distant does not translate into holding futurism.
Luke's account of the phenomenon does not preclude Matthew's. Matthew's adds a detail his doesn't. This is merely a specious issue.
Adding spin is for futurist. Josephus maintains that the Romans made a desolation of his people and nation and connects it with Daniel. This supports historicism, even if its not liked by futurist.
And I do not disregard the issue of the end time. I wrote a book on it. The issue is that if you can't get the identities of Daniel and the Revelation correct, to include the OD, then your idea's about the end time are pointless to me, or anyone else pursuing the truth.
