Dear thinkfreelivefree. As much as I love the Lord, and look forward to His Coming, I am hopeful that it won`t be just yet. For myself I hope we have enough time to keep praying for the rest of my family to be saved, quite a few have accepted Jesus as their Saviour, but some are still undecided. And when I think, how much the Lord loves us and wants us to be saved, I am also aware that many men and women are not sure, or downright without trust and believe in the Love and Forgiveness of our Heavenly Father. I know God`s Holy Spirit is in the process of serious Teaching and Wooing the whole world into Repentance and Returning to our original home with God and our Christian brothers and sisters. Jesus will return some time, but I hope most of us will be ready and waiting. I say this humbly and kindly, thinkfreelivefree, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

Think free live free yes I do believe Jesus will return in my lifetime. And I can hardly wait! The more I see of this world, the more I see the words of scripture becoming fulfilled.
Ebia, why do you believe 2 Thess 4:16-17 to be a figure of speech that isn't factual? For Even Jesus said he would return that way...

'cause Matt 24 is using similar figurative langage (borrowed from Daniel 7). It's common figurative langage for that sort of event for that time and culture, just as "earth-shattering event" is in ours. Luke 21 is rather clearer in linking that language not to the 2nd comming, but the events between the crucifixion and the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70 - an "earth-shattering event", one where the figurative language not just fits, but explains, but where thinking it's literal doesn't work at all.

No one knows when Jesus is coming back. Jesus doesn't even know. It says in Matthew 24:36, But of that day and hour no man knoweth, no, not the angels heaven but my Father only. I would like to see Jesus come back, while I'm living.

um, so excuse me if this is a naive question but, I'd be the first to admit I'm naive when it comes to this stuff. is the idea when Christ comes back that a bunch of people just disappear from this earth?

1Th 4:16 Because the Lord Himself shall come down from Heaven with a commanding shout of an archangel's voice, and with God's trumpet. And the dead in Christ will rise again first.
