  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is not the action of the Holy Spirit in question. It's action is the same for all--individuals and churches alike. It is the actions of those being led that have guided some into error.

You can not erase the individuality out of Christianity no matter how you try. Because of this, there will be those who teach in error.
Christ represented the "Golden Rule" and Christ-ianity does not have a lock on LOVE and HATE in the world.
I found this interesting:

Mark 3:5 And looking about them with wrath, sorrowing on the hardening/pwrwsei <4457> of their heart, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand!. And he stretcheth it forth; and his hand was restored as the other.
6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

Religious groups differ greatly in their concepts of deity, other beliefs and practices. Non-theistic ethical and philosophic systems, like Humanism and Ethical Culture, also exhibit a wide range of beliefs. But there is near unanimity of opinion among almost all religions, ethical systems and philosophies that each person should treat others in a decent manner.

Christianity:
  • "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." Matthew 7:12, King James Version.
  • "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise." Luke 6:31, King James Version.
  • "...and don't do what you hate...", Gospel of Thomas 6. The Gospel of Thomas is one of about 40 gospels that were widely accepted among early Christians, but which never made it into the Christian Scriptures (New Testament).
Judaism:
  • "...thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.", Leviticus 19:18
  • "What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow man. This is the law: all the rest is commentary." Talmud, Shabbat 31a.
  • "And what you hate, do not do to any one." Tobit 4:15 6
Islam: "None of you [truly] believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself." Number 13 of Imam "Al-Nawawi's Forty Hadiths." 5

I asked this in another thread numerous times, but have yet to get an answer....

Where in the scriptures does it say that the scriptures are the authority for Christians and where does it say that all scripture interprets scripture????

Also, those who believe the Bible to be the authority, how do you explain the fact that people can interpret them differently and can be lead into error?

 I believe that we interpret Scripture by the Holy Spirit, not by Scripture itself....and there are many interpretations because not all people rely on the Spirit for this, many just use their own logic and understanding. I'm not saying that my interpretation is perfect, btw ;) But the closer we get to God, the better we're able to understand the Bible.

The reason I think so is because it says that the Holy Spirit will lead us "into all truth"....also I've experienced this, the times when I'm close to God and pray a lot, are the times when I am a given a fuller understanding of the Bible...but when I am trying to use my own mind, I get nowhere.
