A discharge from a debt.

This broken world in whom we are a part as a result of birth, stands before the Father in great need of being discharged. Welcome to the Greater Hope! Your Father loves you, and not only wills you to be saved, He cherishes in His mind of restoring you and I and the whole creation back to Himself debt free.

And doesn't the world need it. Gripped by the beast of compound interest debt chains, inexorably sinking under the chains and burdens of debt slavery. Lord, bring us that quittance of the old and jubilant restoration of the whole world to your image, free in Christ.

Saint Steve made a post elsewhere that inspired a wee thought in my empty head.

"Wow. I like Restorationism as a replacement for Universalism. I wonder what the objections from the other side would be with that term. ??? This is such a pioneering work. We even get to name it. - lol"

There are a number of words that hold some lustre for the Restitution of the all.

To redress =

To correct & put right a wrong action.

To correct a wrong that has been done.

To mend a wrong that has been done.

God's working to square the all =

Exactly adjusted : precisely constructed or aligned.

To regulate or adjust to His standard or principle.

To set right.

To bring into agreement. (At-one-ment)

To agree precisely (with nothing intervening).

To bring into accord & harmony.

"He made known to us the secret of His will. And this is in harmony with God's merciful purpose for the government of the world when the times are ripe for it--the purpose which He has cherished in His own mind of restoring the whole creation to find its one Head in Christ; yes, things in Heaven and things on earth, to find their one Head in Him."

You can't bring unity to all things, or restore all of creation if most of humanity is still burning in hell with no hope of escape.

Ephesians 1:9-10
he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

Well, for the damnationist, there's 'unity' in total suffering, and 'under Christ' means the basement bbq. Ah, don't you just love the plain meaning of the scripture.

The only way you can be satisfied with what the Damnationists call God's "justice" is to think, "I'm just glad it's not me."

If Damnationism was true, How could Jesus teach the parable of the Good Samaritan with a straight face?

Bentley-Hart in that interview suggested it was more perverse than that, it's about prestige, and what prestige is there in the win unless someone else loses, and loses badly.

If Damnationism was true, How could Jesus teach the parable of the Good Samaritan with a straight face?

That's it, if your neighbour's burning in hell, you storm the throne room and beseech God to have mercy, or even offer yourself as a substitute.

Is God a Failure?

Now that’s a pretty poignant question. Or is it an insinuation? An inference? Or implication? Or is it truth, as many would have you believe? Have you ever heard a sermon by that title? I doubt if you have. But I’m certain you have heard many a sermon which has been riddled with such implications.

Allow me to rephrase the question: Have you ever heard a sermon stating that if you don’t accept Jesus, you’ll burn forever in hell? Ah, I knew I’d touch a raw nerve. You have, haven’t you? If you heard that God is going to lose so much as one individual to the devil forever, then God is a failure.

If you have heard that the heathen (who have never had an opportunity to hear of Jesus) will be tormented forever for not believing in Him, then you’ve heard that God is a failure. If you’ve heard that man’s puny will can withstand the omnipotent will of God, and that man’s will can paralyze God’s will, then you have heard that God is a failure.

If you’ve heard that the Adversary outsmarted God in the garden of Eden, if you’ve heard that God did not want Adam and Eve to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, then you’ve heard that God is a failure.

If you’ve ever heard anyone affirm that God will lose 95% of His created beings that He’s placed on planet earth, and will torment them forever, then you’ve clearly heard that God is a failure.

If the Good Shepherd is not willing that any should perish, and yet gets weary and gives up before He finds the last sheep that’s lost, then you know that God is a failure.

If no one can come to Jesus except the Father draws him, and if the Father - eventually - does not draw every single person, then God is a failure.

What is the response of your heart to the poised question: Is God a failure? Ah, my heart says, “Nay, a billion nays.” My heart has fallen in love with a God who does all things perfectly, and one day all will be made plain, and in the end He will become ‘All in All’ and for that day my heart does wait and meanwhile I rejoice and endure because I see Him, the invisible One.

By faith I see a Master Plan for the ages and beyond, and I know I am part of that plan, and for this I whisper, “Thank you, Jesus.” I sing a song to my Beloved, Hallelujah!

In Love with Him

Man’s failure or God’s success: which will stand?

“The teaching of the ultimate exaltation of Jesus Christ and the ultimate reconciliation of all men unto Him, make God’s judgments consistent with His plan of creation. God’s judgments become understandable, purposeful, and constructive without violating any aspect of justice, truth, or mercy. If just one person were condemned to eternal torment, then God’s purpose in creation would have been defeated.

God’s judgments are redemptive.

The end result of God’s judgments is, ‘That in the Name of Jesus every knee will bow, celestial, terrestrial, and subterranean, and every tongue will acclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, for the glory of God the Father (Phil. 2:10,11). God planned for the maturity of the times and the climax of the ages to unify all things and head them up and consummate them in Christ, both in the heavens, and on earth (Eph. 1:10). Fear

Fear can manifest only because of a belief in separation. As long as you are something apart from God you will experience, in one form or another, fear. It is subtle and hidden like a poisonous serpent coiled in the grass, liable to strike at any time--at the most unguarded moment, when least expected.

Its only power is given to it by thought, and it can be swollen by thought from a serpent into a dragon. All thoughts of evil are like toy balloons in that they are enlarged until finally the capacity is overtaxed and they burst. Sooner or later a fear will explode itself, however much or little damage it has done.

The panacea for all fear is your union with God. The moment you are separated from ME and wander into the thought world (the vacuum of separation), you are subject to the laws of fear. The one who is filled with fear sees the "ten thousand fall at your right hand," and is so convinced of the reality and power of evil that he fails to notice the one who passes through unscathed.

"Stand and see the salvation of the Lord" has a definite, positive value to you NOW. For you are beginning to sense-see the power of being one instead of two. You are beginning to appropriate the instantaneous relief felt from this oneness.

This sudden appropriation of oneness accompanied by the consciousness of how to eliminate the object of, or the belief in, fear. There are different "cities" of refuge into which you may run for every differing degree of fear; yet all are the same God. This "running" into God is not as symbolical as it appears. It is an actual fusing of you with the Father within you, and from that moment you are a majority, and you will know the nothingness belief.

We arrive finally at the point, which is so full of the acceptance of God that it can and does say, "Even if You slay me, yet I will say You are God"---and the last stand is taken. Even if You slay me---yet will I acknowledge this One and Only Power. -Walter Lanyon

"I would like for universalism to be right but according to the scriptures and early church writings it’s not.

Do I think that eternal punishment is wrong? No, I accept that God knows what is best, not me. Who am I to question God’s decisions?"

Dear BNR:

The faster you can run from your present dogma of our heavenly Father being the source of on-going torment for His beloved creation the better!

"Just as any teacher in Christianity towered aloft, so in proportion did he the more hold and defend the termination of penalties at some time in the future." - Dcederlin, Inst. Theol

"Indeed, beside ORIGEN, GREGORY of Nyssa also, GREGORY of Nazianzus, BASIL, AMBROSE himself, and JEROME, taught everywhere the universal restitution of things, asserting simultaneously with it, an end of eternal punishment."-C. B. SCHLEUTER, pref. in. Erig, (Migne.)

PFAFF says, "The ultimate restoration of the lost was an opinion held by very many Jewish teachers, and some of the Fathers." - Frag.anec.

REUSS says, "The doctrine of a general restoration of all rational creatures has been recommended by very many of the greatest thinkers of the antient church, and of modern times." - Hist. de la theol, Apost.

"From two theological schools there went forth an opposition to the doctrine of everlasting punishment." - NEANDER, Church Hist. iv. p. 444., Lond., 1853.

"The dogma of ORIGEN had many, and these the most celebrated defenders." - PAGE, In. Bar. ann. A.D. 410, p. 103.

"The school of .Antioch had no hesitation in hoping for an end of the pains of the other world." - MUNTER

"Universalism in the fourth century drove its roots down deeply, alike in the East and West, and had very many defenders." - DlETELMAIER.- Comm. fanat.

The learned and candid HUET names several Fathers as in sympathy with the larger hope. - Origen. ii, pp. 159, 205: Co1egn, 1685.

GIESELER says, "The belief in the inalienable power of amendment in all rational creatures, and the limited duration of future punishment was general, even in the West."- Text Book i. p.212. Phil. . 1836.

I TRUST the candid reader will weigh the above testimonies with all care, coming as they do, so far as I know, in almost every case from those who are not friendly to Universalism. We shall see how they are supported by a vast body of evidence, from all quarters, in the earliest centuries; and confirmed by the express testimony (which I shall quote) of co-temporary witnesses so famous as AUGUSTINE, JEROME, BASIL, (and DOMITIAN of Ancyra,) who attest the very wide diffusion of the larger hope in their age. The following pages will, I hope, show clearly how groundless is the widespread opinion which represents Universalism as the outcome of modern sentimentality, and will establish clearly:

(1.) That it prevailed very widely in the primitive Church, especially in the earliest centuries, often in a form embracing all fallen spirits.

(2.) That those who believed and taught it, more or less openly, or held kindred views, were among the most eminent and the most holy of the Christian Fathers.

(3.) That it not only has never been condemned by the Church, but is, far more than any other view, in harmony with the antient catholic Creeds.

(4.) That in our Prayer Book are some passages, which show a leaning towards Universalism. Such an inquiry seems indispensable, not alone because this branch of the question has been usually neglected, and the argument for Universalism thereby weakened; nor because to many minds the Fathers speak with special weight, as a link connecting us with the Apostolic age, and preserving Apostolic tradition; but on grounds common to every serious student. For all such will surely admit that in dealing with a historic faith like Christianity, its doctrines cannot be adequately treated, their growth and development rightly comprehended, or studied with intelligence, except when viewed from the standpoint of history, as well as of the moral sense, and of Holy Scripture. Further, if this historical inquiry were not entered on, we should have no sufficient answer to a very possible, and very fair objection, viz.: why, if the larger hope be in the Bible, did not those great minds of old find it there? And our faith in the larger hope will gain fresh vigor, as we see it very widely taught by many of the wisest and best men in primitive times, and taught (a) not alone on the direct authority of the Bible, but (b) by those especially to whom Greek was a living tongue, was indeed their native tongue. It is a striking fact that the weight of opposition to Universalism in primitive times is found in the Latin Church, is found most vigorous where, as in AUGUSTINE'S case, the Greek language was never really mastered.

Restoration (The Feast of Tabernacles)

“The feast of tabernacles means the feast of in-gathering. It takes an eight day period to bring in the fullness of the in-gathering. Eight is the number of new beginnings in scripture or full restoration

1 Corinthians 15 is the last chapter in the Bible. The fifteenth chapter clearly shows how great the totality of the feast of tabernacles will be.

‘As in Adam all die (every preacher will agree that all people are in Adam but few believe that the word all mean all in the second part of the verse) so in Christ all shall be made alive.’ Jesus is going to gather all together in Himself.

He will have everyone in His nature.

Everything that occurs, occurs in the plan and order of God. In 1 Corinthians 15 God shows that there are different orders. The highest order is Jesus Christ.

Everything will, in time, be brought into Jesus Christ. All shall be gathered into Him. When this is done then Jesus, the Son, will turn all over to the Father. It is then we find that time ends, for God becomes All in all (verse 28). -Chas. Weller-

"Most Greek scholars agree that all is a common figure of speech, not rare as you've claimed."

My friend, most Greek scholars do not agree with your assumption. I appreciate your Blue Letter Bible, and use it on occasions for simplicity. But remember this: the Blue Letter Bible is based on the numbering system and definitions of Dr James Strong. This is how Dr. Strong defines pa'ß.

pa'ß =

" Including all the forms of declension; apparently a primitive word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway (-s) any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + bi (-thing), X throughly, whatsover, whole, whosover.

You will note how the notes of Charles Spurgeon have made their way into the original definition of James Strong.

"Not everyone has to be part of the restitution. All, does not usually mean each and everything."

That is precisely what pa'ß means.

We will await a presentation of "most" Greek scholars who would present otherwise, and while we wait lets hear from W.E. Vine M.A., author of A Greek Testament Grammar, and, A Comprehensive Dictionary of the Original Greek Words with their precise meanings for English Readers.

All = pa'ß =

Adjective #3956

Radically means "all."

Used without the article it means "every," every kind or variety. So the RV marg. in Eph. 2:21, "every building," and the text in Eph. 3:15, "every family," and the RV marg. of Acts 2:36, "every house;"

or, it may signify "the highest degree," the maximum of what is referred to, as, "with all boldness" Acts 4:29.

Before proper names of countries, cities and nations, and before collective terms, like "Israel," it signifies either "all" or "the whole," e.g., Matt. 2:3; Acts 2:36.

Used with the article, it means the whole of one object.

In the plural it signifies "the totality of the persons or things referred to." Used without a noun it virtually becomes a pronoun, meaning "everyone" or "anyone."

In the plural with a noun it means "all."

One form of the neuter plural (panta) signifies "wholly, together, in all ways, in all things," Acts 20:35; 1 Cor. 9:25.

The neuter plural without the article signifies "all things severally," e.g., John 1:3; 1 Cor. 2:10; preceded by the article it denotes "all things," as constituting a whole, e.g., Rom. 11:36; 1 Cor. 8:6; Eph. 3:9. See EVERY, Note (1), WHOLE.

"Therefore as by the offence of the one judgement came upon pa'ß (all) mankind to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon pa'ß (all) mankind unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience the mass (poluvß) of mankind were constituted sinners, so too by the obedience of one will the mass (poluvß) of mankind be constituted righteous."

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation . For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
