Uh ok...With this 502 post I am formally withdrawing. This thread was doomed from the start to end like this. Nothing will change people's minds about it. You can holler on about how great SC is and I yet will never recognise it. I can boast as much as I want about how great TA is and yet you won't budge. People are just too stubborn ;)

I have tried again and again to keep this thread alive, but it is getting slow and repetitive. See you guys around. Nice working with you Noddingdog :D

Now the sound effects...Same as music. Lasers actually sound like lasers, you can hear a plane's whoosh as it flies overhead, explosions...(which SC lacks a lot of), I could go on for hours (figuratively speaking of course). The sounds match the spectacular battle scenes perfectly, as most people will agree with me.
Hmm, I don't know. There is absolutely nothing scarrier and more frightening than hearing a siege tank going into siege mode.

I don't know, a Krogoth is a scary sight (and sound) on the battlefield. One Krogoth can take apart an entire base if used correctly - and SC's units wouldn't have a chance, IMO. Fortunately, this is balanced by ARM's mobile Annihilator weapons - Krogoth really doesn't like these, thus balancing the game out.

um.. TA was unbalanced IMO.. It was fun to boost out all those tanks and robots but really.. it got boring after a while, and as the resources never ended the multiplayer games never ended either..
SC was better balanced (could have been better still though), but atleast the multiplayer games ended.
So if I had to choose from SC and TA.. Then I'd choose SC..
my two cents on this topic.. :)

I have yet to see a valid argument for StarCraft over TA. Most of you who prefer SC over TA simply state that SC is more popular than TA. That does not mean that it is a better game technically. I will agree that SC has a better story than TA, but thats about it. Total Annihilation uses fully rendered 3D units as well as a realistic physics system. StarCraft is stricky 2D with no physics at all, granted that SC does have some nice looking artwork, but thats to be expected from Blizzard. Secondly, the AI for TA is far better, now I'm not talking about an AI player that you would play in a skirmish battle, I'm talking about the units individual pathfinding and responses when left to their own devices. StarCraft's AI is so "dumb" or bad that most games are won by exploiting AI behavior, so it really matters not wich game has more units or playable races. Finally, if you say that SC is better because of custom maps and game scenarios chances are you have never played TA or have played it very little. TA has all the same custumization and more. How about new units, and a MOD community that leave StarCraft found wanting.
Look, in the end I'm not saying that SC is a bad game, I enjoy a good game of SC from time to time. But the two games are really like comparing apples to oranges the only thing they have in common is the RTS genre'.

There are 515 posts that I'm sure you did not read through, and in those posts the same argument was repeated over and over and over. There's a reason we let the topic die.
No one in thier right minds would read through 515 post, as I am well aware that the aurgument had been made previously a number of times. Also, "Oh High and Mighty" Pope Gonzo, if the topic is dead why did you bother to respond?

*YAWN* Yes, I do like a game where tactics are meaningless. SC is simply the better tactical game, and TA is the better strategic game. The fact is TA could use to be balanced badly, which is usually what kills it for me.

I think TA is balanced fine as a game. The Arm are better for rushing early in game and for light skirmishes, and the Core are better base-pounders in the later stages of the game. The sight and radar system, in my opinion, are better than Starcrafts FOW system. Being able to construct a radar tower (instead of scoutin) can be invaluable on a large map, along with the added bonus that the enemy does not see you. Observer units in SC are too easily countered with missile towers, photon cannons, and the like.

Your statement about tactics being meaningless is totally false. Using cover for units, building stationary cannon to turn the tides of a battle, and having *useful* air support (not the flying vehicles sc has) provides more tactical depth, imho, than sc could ever hope to provide.

Just as the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg need different mindsets to be used most effectly, the Arm and Core have similar differences.
