starcraft was truely a breakthrough in rts games. War 3 is pretty amazing too.

It was more then just a few tweeks. The game play is vastly different and they came up with the three race format. One is not less then the other two...One always has an advantage over one of the others..etc. This along with an actual rts format made it a break through. War2 also wasn't balanced in my opinion.

Starcraft can't really be classed as a breakthrough, you only have to look at the graphics to see that. TA however can, because in it's day those graphics were awesome.

I just searched Google for "top video games of all time," and here are the first ones that came up that included all platforms, not just PC or console:

IGN's top 100, which I already linked - SC #7, TA unranked

"The DORK Club's" top 25 - SC #18, TA unranked

GameSpy's top 50(this one's got TA!!!) - SC #9, TA #50

The Sydney Morning Herald's top 50 - SC #8, TA unranked

Gamespot doesn't have a ranked list, but they've got 13 so far, and Starcraft is among them... I'm sure TA is next week, though

PC Gameplay polled famous game creators and developers to get their 50 most influential - SC #28, TA unranked

Do you want me to keep going? I mean, what do these guys know... they only play video games endlessly and write about them! They don't realize how awesome Total Annihilation really is...

I know, but all those awards are listed from 1997. I think the oldest link I listed was from 2001.

I also never said TA was bad, I just stated(and backed up my claim) that Starcraft is better

TA was too good to have a sequel, and the Koreans are making it; I don't know one good game from Korea.
