  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

the bible says: "let there be light"
I'm trying to comprehend God, and it seems that God must have been in a state of total darkness given this was the "creation" of light. and being in this darkness implies a far more primordial being, not an anthropomorphic humanoid with eyes evolved to process non-existent light... not a sophisticated reasoning type of consciousness either, but an omnipotent, eternal and infinite force of consciousness, a consciousness that did not necessarily plan, design and create the forms, rather causing the impetus of the evolution of the ensuing forms, a prime consciousness of pure impulse. God as the root cause that remains connected to all its forms of expression. God as a singular essence that splits off into an infinity of aspects, and each one of us are an evolving quantum of that God.
These are my thoughts and visions.....

A belief in God is a good stepping stone. Trying to think of God often causes us to want to know more about Him. Or to understand His nature.

Christians know God as Creator, Father, Almighty, Omnipresent, Omniscient, and Love.

Welcome, Obert. Good to get to know you.

Welcome, Obert. Looking around at the evidence of all that God created, could it be that the small part of the story we have is all we can manage but not all that there is? It amazes me that God would have interest in us, but that's part of the story. If we could "understand" God, it would imply that we are of greater understanding than God, wouldn't it?. But He wants us to understand that He rejoices in lovingkindness, mercy, and justice, and He wants us to be like Him,so much so that He gave His Son for us, while we were yet sinners. Draw closer, Obert. He's there, calling you!

Welcome! It looks like you've stumbled upon the god of the philosophers, i.e. that from which all else emanates. It's not an unknown comprehension, this god you're after. In fact, it is fairly common. There is nothing new under the sun. Welcome.

Welcome to CF.

Wise people have said - if you can comprehend it - it’s not God. To a degree, God is incomprehensible to the human mind. What He has told us to help us conceive of Him is all condescension for our sake. We cannot use the Scriptures to try to figure out what God is - especially if we imagine Him to be “primordial” or limited, etc.

Better to take that God has revealed Himself as agape-love, and in the Person of Jesus Christ, and try to understand what Christ taught and how He demonstrates love. That will get us closer than philosophical imaginings, which have been the source of many errors through history.

Hello,

I just discovered this forum. I'm curious to find out how closely the Bible describes human consciousness; as consciousness is our interface between us and the world, it seems that new testament literature implies a complete death and rebirth of consciousness into something resembling the Christ. This is not a new "interpretation," but one that is seemingly out of style; it is very probable that the early church never read the Bible "literally," as that would be an arbitrarily imposed limitation on understanding the Bible. Even today, Jewish communities have vigorous and lively debates on the meanings of Torah passages.

Questions,

If the Bible describes human consciousness and its salvation through plot, character and metaphor, then what is its message?

Do you think the fundamentalist position of infallibilty and plenary inspiration of the Bible is ultimately helpful or harmful to the Christian who seeks to worship God in Spirit and in Truth (beyond words and doctrine), and who "has ears to hear," (understands parables and sees beyond surface understanding)?

Welcome to CF, BeingThere! This thread is over a year old, but you might find some interesting discussion on this in Christian Theology.

You ask some good questions. I think if you start this in a new thread you would get some interesting replies.
