  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Rainbow question

Jet Black said:
well it is all true when you think about it.

Let me see if i can describe your point (as i see it).

1. God makes physical universe, to include light spectrum and
2. God creates the dynamics of a prism.
3. God creates Water and sky (Not sure if you believe this)
4. The rainbow just happens. God did not have to create the rainbow.

am i close? Y/N

Am i making your point FOR you? briefly.

Can i use reason? God didn't make your car. Did your car evolve or was it designed?

God Designed the rainbow indirectly, by designing the components that allow it to take place.

Also, i think the point of the story about the rainbow covenant (as i see it) was that it was the FIRST rainbow ever witnessed by man. Also that it was the first time it had ever rained on earth. We are talking about a major change in the earth's atmosphere. What it would have been like before the flood is open to speculation, but there are theories available if anyone is interested.

Actually Mike is heading somewhat in the right direction.

The point is that God created the natural world and all its processes, but that, in itself, is a miracle. The fact that we are beginning to understand exactly HOW God might have created life on this Earth is the same as learning how rainbows actually happen. Scientific explanation of God's handiwork is not an attack on God, it is simply our grasping out to understand His greatness.

The fact that many see in evolution an alternative to God's creative force is besides the point, they are simply wrong. It is the same as if a person said that the Biblical story of Noah and the rainbow was proved false by the scientific explanation of the refraction that creates the rainbow.

Atheists *do* use evolution to attempt to disprove the the existence of God. Too many Creationists simply aid them in their endeavors by agreeing with them that if you believe in evolution, you are denying God's role in the process. Believe me, atheists are very satisfied that Creationists have bought into this lie.

We know how the rainbow is made, but we know that God created the process. We know how photosynthesis works, but we know that it is all God's work. We understand how we, ourselves, reproduce, but we know that God created this reproductive process. We know that God could have waved his hand and brought each of us individually into existence miraculously in our perfect time. Yet, he chose to allow a natural process of sexual reproduction, a process created by Him, for this creative effort. Why is it so abhorrent that He used a natural process from the beginning?

Scientific knowledge can only help us understand God's Creation more fully, it can never destroy Faith.

UNLESS, of course, you accept the atheistic line of thought.
