  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The questions of non-christians

Hello! So, I am not really a new christian, but I did not know where to post this message, and I figured out that new christians can also help me.
So, on your approach to atheists and in general, with non-believers, what were the most common explanations that they gave you for not being a christian? I want to write a script for a new skit, where we will deal with the most common questions of non-believers, and I am curios to know your experiences. What have they told you to explain why they can't believe? What are the most common questions that people put from this point of view?:)

From hardcore atheist you tend to get mockery and them trying to allude confusion in the Bible. It's unnecessary to entertain them, unless they are actually willing to learn, this doesn't mean they cannot be open it just will take a bit more work. Uncertain people might be more open to learning.
Atheists:
"You have no proof of God, so why should I believe in Him?
If God is so loving, why did He murder/kill people according to the Bible?
Why does your religion promote racism?
Why does God punish us for exercising free will, when He allows us to have it?(i.e. why does God even send us to Hell if he knew we'd sin anyway?)
I don't believe in God because your religion supports dogma and manipulation.
If God was real, He wouldn't let people in Africa and other 3rd world countries suffer." -Actual stuff I heard from atheists

Uncertain people:
"Why should I believe in God?
Who is God?
Why do you believe in God?
What has God done for others?"

I hope your skit goes well! Exciting.

There are many agnostics who have lived life for years without God, and they don't see what benefits there might be. They know their life, their friends, their jobs, and are secure in keeping things the same. Introducing something new disrupts the control they have had over their lives... even the trust level.

The church sometimes becomes "The Man" in their minds -- the establishment creating more rules than necessary. They do not see the freedom and healing, the close networks of trustworthy people, the kindness shown between Christians, the prayer support, the way God rescues and quietly guides our lives.

Thank you Llamapop, those are some things I will certainly use!

I agree, parsley. There are more and more teenagers coming every week at the youth meeting and I want to answer them to the questions they have, through skits. They often do not ask anything and remain with the uncertainties, and I just want to offer them a new view. Until now, people were so touched by the skits! I think it is a powerful weapon that we have, that opens people`s heart. I remember that when we did Everything skit (Lifehouse's Everything Skit - YouTube) almost everyone was crying:).

It is not us playing in the video, we just made a remake of the skit. But I know that is very powerful; as far as I know, this skit is the most viewed skit on youtube:).

OT: did anyone asked you this: Why does God allow some babies to suffer from different diseases?

Oh okay, apologies.

OT: did anyone asked you this: Why does God allow some babies to suffer from different diseases?

Yes.
I hope others are going to add to this thread! I guess we just caught everyone while they were sleeping, or Americans celebrating LaborDay and the beginning of school.

I found a good video that addressed the baby question from a different angle. If you can get your hands on Jesse DuPlantis' CDs of his vision of heaven, he talks about the babies in heaven in such a wonderful way that it reverses the sadness of what we see on earth.

But disease... that seems harder, I think. It leaves people dealing with suffering, emotionally and physically. But solutions come from suffering. People with a passion to correct it, start developing vaccines and taking medical mission trips, and start addressing the problem for strangers and on a larger scale.

God definitely works with these problem-solving people. It's not a short-term solution, but accomplishes so much more when our lives are not just focused on our own ends.

We've just had an evangelical atheist challenge us in the "Outreach" section of this website. His questions were:

1. If God is good, why did he order genocide to be committed?

2. Which resurrection story are we to believe? There are 4 of them.

3. Christians are homophobes. Why should I accept that?

4. Our answers come through scientific study, rather than reading stories. Why should we turn our backs on the logic of science in order to follow myths and legends?

He was a real challenge to us, even those of us who have been Christians for decades. But I suspect that in his case it was more than just an intellectual exercise. There was real anger in what he was saying, as if he was attacking Christianity with a purpose in mind. It is possible that he has chosen a lifestyle that is contrary to Christian teaching, and in order to give that lifestyle the veneer of morality he must 'tear down' the morality of the church.

The most common explanation given by atheist is usually a lack of evidence for the existence of God, usually though, when this argument has been refuted in debate, they attack God's character over evil in the world. Atheists find reason not to believe no matter what the evidence says otherwise. If there is a anti-God view to take, you can be sure they will hold it.

Sincerely, I don't know why people think that christianity is myths and legends. If they study a little, they can see that there are actually many proves that the things from the Bible happened.

This is a question that sometimes comes in my mind, too.

Soldier of soul, the bad thing is that there will always be an anti-God view :(.

Soldier of soul, the bad thing is that there will always be an anti-God view :(.

The anti-God view used to be laughed out of intellectual circles it is only in recent times (the past 100 years or so) has atheism hijacked the intellectual community. In the present, the atheistic community has manufactured and pushed this simpleton view of religious believers, that because they believe in the supernatural they are ignorant and naive.

This is the common perception among atheists, the extreme of this view is what people like Richard Dawkins hold, and that is the view that religion is dangerous and a evil (it is funny when atheists use this term) in society. They base this theory on wars and atrocities committed in the name of religion and God. Although atheist spout this "opium of the people" ideal of religion, they refuse to acknowledge the great evil atheism has done in the twentieth century through communism, the atheistic monster of logic has killed hundreds of millions from the gulags of Russia to the poverty purges of China...Far more than all religions put together.

The atheist is above all things a hypocrite, the atheist blasts God for atrocities yet defends them in the hope of a "new" society. The atheist proclaims liberty and freedom of speech yet in Oxford Dawkins has been quoted as saying that the religious should be barred from admission in the school.

Atheism pronounces the innate goodness of man yet proclaims God guilty because of the evil in the world. This leads to another observation: The atheist uses the word "evil" to make a point yet denies it's existence in the real world. The atheist claims that truth does not exist, yet they tell us to believe them.

The atheist is lost in a world of confusion, who's only foundation is that of their perceived higher reason. They fail to see the fallible aspect of their own flawed logic and they go on to deny the reality of things as they are and yet proclaim a false substitute as ultimate reality (still denying the idea of anything as ultimate except their own opinion). In biblical language the atheist is a fool and completely consumed by the sin of pride and held fast by a false reality and a hatred for the true God in Christ.

I will give you the story of my father.I am a believer of Jesus,I have felt the presence of Jesus for real.I do accept Jesus as my master and I am his slave.

But why I am telling you about my father because he is an Insane Idiot with Full of Black magic.

He read the Holy Bible to the core, from first page to last page and these are the words he said by throwing the bible into dustbin "Why should I live a servant life following Jesus's commands" instead He opted to choose the dark path by using the black magic and all black magic rituals.

This shows that, some people are not ready to enjoy Jesus being their Leader and are afraid to the so called slavery to the christ.

And few other reasons,
Existence of aliens.

Around 3/4th of the world thinks that by proving the existence of aliens they could say that Bible is a fake. But it is clearly mentioned in the bible that Aliens exist and I have seen aliens in my visions.Everything is under god.

And the main reason why non believers don't come into christianity is because of the christians. They scare people by living a "transparent holy life" and so called religious life.
Most non believers give up seeing these transparent christians, but what non believers dont know is that there is Jesus who could Help us to live a holy life.Non believers dont know that there is Holy spirit to help us and also they think that they have to establish a relationship with God by prophets but not by themselves.Only true christians know that God wants to build a personal relationship with them.I would say,Its the improper spread of christianity, spreading it as a cure to a person's sickness that is making everyone go wrong about Jesus.

Most of the ones I've encountered disbelieve in God because of evil. They have come to the place where they reject the concept of an omnibenevolent Creator because they find it incompatible with the existence of evil.

They mention people like Hitler, Stalin, Ivan the Terrible, Idi Amin, Mao Zedong, Vlad the Impaler, Caligula, and all of those nasty fellows. A good God would have stopped these men, they say. They sometimes speak of rapes and murders and human smuggling and slavery--all that cruelty.

This is the one I get the most.
