  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

what is S/O?

Then what is the purpose of marriage?
significant other

The purpose of marriage is a lot of things to me. Either you want to be married or you don't and i guess if you don't then don't look for a g/f or b/f- just have good friends.

companionship, being a 'team' and doing more for God and others than would be possible to do alone (in some cases). Personally, I'm too old to be worrying about kids so I don't think it's "necessary" to raise kids. In a world where there are over 6 billion people, tons of people in poverty and starvation and not enough resources, kindness, and concern to help them, why would it be necessary to 'be fruitful and multiply'? I think God at this point in time would be more pleased with us caring for each other than creating new lives to add to the burden.

Sorry....got on a rant there. I just get aggravated when I hear/read that having kids is "necessary".

Just to clarify: I'm not condemning those who want/have kids. My frustration lies in the thought that I'm somehow flawed in God's eyes because I happen to be one who doesn't have/want kids. To me, that is legalistic mumbo jumbo.... Sorry....

That's cool, SLG. Some people though will use the bible verse about 'being fruitful and multiply' to tell me that I SHOULD have kids. I sometimes feel they are putting that verse up there with the 10 Commandments or something. I don't think you were doing that though, k? :) All's good as far as you're concerned. My personal wish as far as kids goes is that more adults learned to be 'parents' instead of 'friends' and actually disciplined kids and gave them guidance. I feel that if anything my 'calling' with respect to kids is help guide them to be the best they can be and respect others, love God and respect themselves too. It just makes me sad how so many kids are today. That's the old lady talking again. lol

Anyway...I don't mean to hijack this thread.

I thought of another comment regarding the purpose of finding a bf/gf in 'today's world'.....I think part of the worldview is just to say you've got one....kind of like saying I climbed Mt. Everest. (no I didn't)

...and I agree with the others here that the world is all about having someone to have sex with.....

I disagree about the worldly views. Whole heartidly. I was in the world (was a believer, but was in the world). I was NOT looking for sex..nor was I looking for simple companionship to fill my spare time.

I was looking for LOVE ... my entire life.

Was it truly going to come without Christ...no. But it doesn't mean I wasn't desiring that.
