• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone here ever gotten depressed simply from reading this book?

I just started it a few days ago and I've put it down at least 4 times. Maybe I fear the truth?

I think being in the dark about God's purpose for our lives is the root of all depression.

Hey  BOJAX... great book. God bless you! i hope this encourages you. i have taken and taught this in my class. alot of people have this reaction to the first couple of truths. really, it is just because of how we are and exsperiances we have. once you toss it over and continue the book, you'll work it out. i'm positive of it. alot of people also end up reading it over a few times to soak in even more. i have read it about four times :D ... if you have the video it will help. but it's not nessasary. i have never known anyone to complete it and not feel blessed with joy.

Hi GV long time,
It's reassuring to know my reaction is normal. The instant I felt it I KNEW that it was Satan not wanting me to read it lest I find out I have a purpose.

BTW. I see your age now! he he :p:p
You have that right.. Satan uses all kinds of ways to drive us away from GOD. But, hang in there, it is really a great book!
God Bless

Dear Bojax, the only books that have ever upset me are dystopic novels. We had to read 1984 and Oh Brave New World and I was upset by them. I can't believe we had to read that at school and I was depressed because I had no one to talk to about it. I never heard of that book so this might not have anything to do with what you are saying. It is quite strange that you should mention this book. I was just reading it just last night and literally threw it down. I wonder if I am unaccepting of the true as well. This book says so much about how a christian should feel. I do believe that it is a good book, with an abundance of information. However, it seems that some christians frown on depression itself. This is just wrong. Depression is not just a feeling, it is a physical ailment.

appointed: that is EXACTLY how I was. I still can't manage to pick it up and I even have trouble picking up the bible even now because of it. To me depression is nothing but a series of bad thoughts that are against the Word of God. I do hope I am able to pick up the book sooner or later.

lily: What about those two books were upsetting. What is upsetting about the purpose driven life is how it is very hard to accept that God has a purpose for our life for some people when they consider their circumstances.

 you know the parts of the bible that are scary? parts you just remind yourself how good God is, and someday we will understand. ofcourse life has bumps like this too. we focus on promises and blessing instead of dwelling on what could be an obstical for us.....

 God bless you! look forward to the joy you will be blessed with when the book is complete. look at it this way: 40 days on the mount! don't let anything take away the blessings and joy you will know by finishing this devotion of your life. :groupray:

Bojax, I am not talking about that! I got your message mixed up. 1984 and Oh Brave New World are dystopic novels of future worlds and people are tortured and stuff. I hated that. I would love to read the book you are talking about! Lily00:angel:
