My dad told me when I was very young that hobos and homeless, guys who ride the rails and such, would filter through bread what was then used for automotive coolant.
Anyone verify that?

Here in Poland, drunks would filter "denatura" (methylated spirit) through bread to remove the bad taste. Now, it is about the same price as cheap drinking alcohol, so they don't need to waste good bread.

That's dangerous. Meths contains about 10% methanol, which will kill you. There were 2 young Australian girls who died in Laos last week after drinking shots that contained methanol. There were 6 people in total who died.

If you distill anything, the first runs off the still will be be very high proof alcohol containing a lot of methanol (it has a lower boiling point than ethanol). If someone is making backstreet hooch then it's a temptation to leave it in. At best it'll give you the worst hangover you've ever had. It also affects the optic nerves and causes blindness - hence the term 'blind drunk'. Too much - and it doesn't take much, and it'll kill you.

For me, blind drunk used to mean driving when I was too drunk to drive with both eyes open. Had to close one to see one road.
I don't recall ever being able to even get in a car when drunk on vodka.
My last drink was over 46 years ago.
Could hardly go a day without an AA meeting.

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ who took that desire to drink away nearly 2 years after my last drink.

That is why the government put something that taste very bad in methylated spirits, but it didn't work as well as raising the price. Death from methanol was all too common. In general, death from alcohol is a big problem. I spent a night in an emergency ward with a heart problem, and almost all of the other patients were with alcohol poisoning. It was terrible.

I have no idea. You could put all the alcohol I have imbibed in my 71 years and put it in a 2-liter bottle. Most of that was when I was in single digits, taking sips from Daddy's beer or taking a shot of Nyquil when I had the sniffles.
My mother died when I was a kid due to alcoholism. I resolved that I would never drink. Just never started.

I have nothing against those who do! It is certainly allowable by scripture. It is just me.
