As a new covenant Christian we are not under the Law, but rather, we are under grace. This does not mean that the Law is done away with but it does mean that the Law's authority to require punishment for law breakers has been disarmed. This was very hard to grasp for a religious Jew in Jesus' day.

Jesus had a very hard task of trying to balance the letter of the Law with the spirit of the Law. The letter of the Law demands punishment for sin but the spirit of the Law teaches us how to love God and man.

The greatest challenge Jesus had was when it came to the Sabbath because within Sabbath keeping there needs to be a blend of loving God and loving man. Jesus taught us how to maintain this balance.

Never once, in the words or life of Jesus, did He ever have an issue as to which day the Sabbath was. Never once did Jesus ever speak of the first day. Never once did Jesus say the Sabbath was no longer a special time.

What He did teach is that He is Lord of the THE Sabbath. He did teach that doing good on THE Sabbath did not offend God. He did teach that caring for human and animal needs on THE Sabbath did not offend God. Jesus did a lot of teaching regarding Sabbath observence under the new covenant.

Let us not use the grace of God as a license to sin, but rather, let us follow the teachings of Jesus by observing the Sabbath without overlooking the needs of others and let us remember the day God blessed and called holy, even before sin was in the world. In doing this, we will be true followers of Christ.

At the risk of being perceived as you dutiful follower, great post!!

The probelm. as I see it, is that some people don't want to listen to what Jesus actually said but will believe an interpretation of the apostles commentary of what Christ said...

How would you say Jesus did when met with this "greatest challenge"? I can't imagine you believe he did a bad job or anything, so how do you explain the Sabbath truth being lost on something like 99% of Christians?

Did He do as good as anyone could have possibly done on this "very hard task". And why was this task so difficult? Didn't God plan things out this way from the beginning?

It just seems like Jesus could have explained it the way you just did in a few paragraphs and we would have a whole lot less gray area and possibly a few billion more souls saved.

Study the OT a little more kira, Satan has always used the same strategy, it has never changed. He attacks two specific commandments to deceive God's people, if one doesn't work then he attacks the other. And if he succeeds in perverting one of them then he renews his attack on the other. These two commandments are the second and the fourth. The second estabilishes God's requirement that nothing can give justice to his power, majesty, might and love and therefore man shouldn't even attempt making any images to represent him. The fourth establishes God's creative authority over the world and assigns a day that he desires to commune with his highest creation. He created and established it for that purpose and that purpose alone. Satan hates, no, dispises both these laws. Check it out, these are the two commandments most violated by Israel and in most cases they went hand in hand, when one was violated, the other quickly followed. So it follows that he would continue to prevert these two commandments after Christ rose from the grave and unfortunately he has been able to deceive many, but not the elect.

Amen...

People have to understand how the whole world is under the sway of Satan. We should never use the majority as a standard for what it true for wide is the gate that leads to destruction and many are going through.

The old testament gave many clear clues as to who the Messiah would be, how He would be born, where He would be born and so on yet the people of God killed Him. Did God fail to instruct His people or does His people have to be more in tune with God's will?
