  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Princess

I had again the dream
That I once dreamed before
A childish thought
Of knights in days of yore,
The noble heart, the maidens true,
The young men who
In gardens dark below
Do speak their heart in noble verse
To balconies above

(Of course there was supposed
To be no one upon the rail
To listen to their love)

And yet they still pour out their soul
And break their heart
If they should fail
To spark the heart of maiden fair
Who listens sight unseen.

They risk sure punishment to win
The daughter of the King.

(Perhaps there are others who also understand these things the same way. Thanks for the encouragement, Caitlin et al.)

I just had to look. I am called "the Princess" (long story) by people at my church. I even have a t-shirt with Princess on it. We were on a mission trip and had stopped to do some sight-seeing. One of the youth spotted it and told me I just had to have it. Soon they were all in on it, so of course how could I refuse.

Anyway, nice job Keil. Have you had any of your poetry published?

I understand Keil. You're hoping to get "discovered" and appreciated for who you are. I think all us "good" (ie sinner who tries not to be one but lives by Jesus' grace) guys feel that way. I suppose the gals want to be the girl behind the curtain to some extent when the knight reveals his inner self.

Uggghhh...I'm getting too mushy.

I learned a trick with respect to 'mushiness' for men - call it honesty and openness and it goes down a lot easier. Be for real and it's no longer mushy, it's simply truth.

You're right to some extent - there are things on the inside, though I hadn't thought of that, it's in there. The heart of the poem is about facing loss of innocence while still hoping for all those things and wishing that they would come true. Just as the young men of legend and tale risked sure punishment for pursuing the princess, so we all (and I) risk and face repeated rejection, and I know it, having experienced it and grown through it. Often when you open up you find that others are in an entirely different world and want nothing to do with that kind of closeness, perhaps, or who you are. There are all varieties of differences, all of them painful if closeness becomes impossible. In the end, I realized that whoever that someone is, the real person who is found truly .is. a princess if she is the daughter of the heavenly King. Just as for the young men of legend, that makes it worth continuing.
