The wyrm riders flew overhead and gave a salute with their long lances blazing in the afternoon sunlight. The parade was nearing its end, and all Mathonwy could think of was that he should have worn cooler robes. Finally, after beads of sweat had fallen from his nose to the floor, the last float, on which stood proudly the priests of the Citadel, glided by. Mathonwy left for the inn to find his "new" acquaintances and propose they relieve themselves of the summer heat in the Emperor's private pools.

Vili was sticking out like a sore thumb in the crowd. He was the only man dressed in wool, fur, and leather, and he kept bumbling about, asking where the ale and the food was, and why the bards were playing garbage instead of things like The Moon Dance, or Blodik's Triumph. He also threw himself to the ground when he saw the wyrm riders fly overhead. He shakily stood up and looked around to make sure everything was alright, then began moving towards the inn, absolutely bored by the sad excuse for a festival.

Aneirin paced back and forth, angry with herself. She should be on the floats, one of the proudly waving priestesses! She heaved an angry sigh and marched off to find the others.

Mathonwy reached the heavy door of the inn and pulled it, revealing a crowd teaming with the sweaty peasants that had watched the parade all afternoon, and thus their odor mixed with that of beer and crushed peanuts in the dust.

"Ah! Mr. Mathonwy, sir! Will it be the usual!" cried emphatically the bartender while he cleaned a shining glass mug, whose face was lit from dimple to dimple because of the vast number of customers.

"Oh- sure...but do you know where I can fin-"

"Oh good, sir, very good! I knew you were going to say that, sir, that I did huh haha."

"Yes Majky, but I need to know where I can find a band of-"

"You'll be happy to find our iced coffee- mocha being your preference of course- even better than the last time you graced us with your presence," the burly, red-faced balding man muttered glowingly into the pewter cup which he was mixing the coffee and chocolate in.

Mathonwy, exasperated from the bitter heat and the all too familiar rambling random conversation Majky was accustomed to, leaned over the counter with wide eyes, and a tense, straight neck, replying, "Majky!"

The bartender looked up as if someone new had just entered the "di"alogue. "Yes, what can I do for ya?"

"There was a strangely-assorted band of travellers that were supposed to check in here not too long ago. Could you tell me where they went to?"

"Oh, why, sure, Mr. Mathonwy! Always glad to help a benefactor out! Why, I recall the day that your mother came in asking for-"

"Majky."

"Oh- yes- right- they went..."

Aneirin changed her course abruptly. All travelers to the Citadel eventually ended up at a dusty inn not far from the course of the parade. Perhaps she would find the group there. Why she wanted to find them, she did not know...she really should be getting back to the Temple soon. The High Priestess was probably in a flurry of rage.

A rough looking traveler jostled her unexpectedly and she jumped. The man leered at her and she picked up her pace. The sooner she arrived to the inn, and then got back to the Temple, the better.

"Why did you not call your husband to challenge that rude scoundrel to a duel, miss?" Vili asked Aneirin as he came up behind her. "You should not allow people to treat you so poorly. Are you not of some high status in this land?"

Aneirin jumped but calmed down when she saw who had spoken to her. "I do not have a husband. All who live under the rule of Chama have vowed to devote themselves to the war goddess." She smiled. "For another thing, I could surround that man with fire and slowly roast him, if I so desire. But I do not like to use my...powers very often, which is lucky for other but it's caused me some shame in the Temple." She ignored Vili's last question and peered ahead, hoping to see another member of the group in the crowd around them. "Have you seen any of the others?" She glanced at the sky. "I really need to be getting back to the Temple soon."

"No, but if they knew how bad the party was, I am not surprised that they are hiding. I heard them mention that inn. But that is all." Vili replied. "Forgive me... I am apparently not used to the customs here. In Ordki, women marry at about 15, festivals are actually fun, and men are to respect women. Say... may I follow you to the inn they mentioned? I.... um... I do not know the way..." Vili said sheepishly.

"Wow." Aneirin said softly. "I want to go to Ordki!" She smiled, knowing that she would probably never even leave the Citadel her whole life. "Anyway, I was going to the inn, so I'll be happy to show you. The innkeeper is nice, but the rest of the inn has seen its better days."
She rounded a corner, wound her way through a street of busily hawking street vendors, and arrived at the inn. She pushed her way through the crowded doorway and squinted in the dim light. The air smelled like sweat and cheap alcohol.
"Perhaps if I were a bit taller I could actually see something." she mumbled angrily as she attempted to find the others.

"It is better than here... no offense." Vili said as he peaked over a few shoulders to try and find his friends. "No walls, no overcrowded taverns or roads... actually... I don't think my village even had roads inside it... just some dirt paths leading from the longhouses to the tavern, the market, and the Althing. And the ale smells better." Of course, all Vili really knew was the Steinthor village and what rural areas he had travelled. He missed the cold weather, the animals that were like kin to the tribesmen, the fresh mountain air, the sound of children playing and men training to fight, or working in thier shops and fields. The smiling faces, the relaxing music of bards' flutes and lyers(sp?), powerful ale that was ice cold, and Vili would guess that it would be strong enough to knock out most of the men who bumbled about this inn, due to the weak smell. Men in Ordki lived as brothers, not neighbors, and of course, Ordki's fair maidens were quite a plus...

Aneirin sighed. Very rarely was it that she let herself get downhearted, but Vili's words reminded her of her childhood wish to travel. Of course, unless she was on a mission for Chama she would never see anything beyond the high gates of the Citadel, so she mostly content to read about all the fantastic places that were forbidden to her.
"Sounds nice." She tried to smile and occupied her mind with finding the others.

A door upstairs opened and closed quietly. Zalika swept out of it and down the stairs. She kept her eyes straight ahead, her head held high. She was probably one of the very few in the Citadel who hadn't gone to the festival. A smile lit up her face as she saw Vili and Anierin nearby. "Hello," she said, nearing them.

Vili turned and smiled when he saw Zalika. "Hello Zalika! Good to see you! Where is everyone else?" he asked as he pushed his way through the crowd to her. "Oops. Sorry. It is most impolite to step on someone's foot without... are you listening to me? Hmph."
