The baptism with the Holy Spirit was an essential part of the Christian experience
in the early church. Those who believed were baptized in water. Then the Apostles laid hands on them and they received the baptism with the Holy Spirit.

In the passage in Acts chapter 19, the Apostle Paul encounters some disciples of
John the Baptist. He asks them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” - vs 2
This is a very interesting question. Why would the Apostle ask a believe such a thing?
Was he questioning the indwelling Holy Spirit in these believers? Probably not. It was probably
a question based on the lack of manifestations of the Holy Spirit in their worship.
They replied, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” - vs 2
Knowledge of the Holy Spirit would not prevent the indwelling in a believer's life.
These believers were missing the experience with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

There is more to the story, but...
The Apostle laid hands on them and the Holy Spirit came on them,
and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. - vs 6

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is subsequent to receiving Christ as Saviour. We repent (that is turn from our sin and turn to God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We grow in grace are baptised in water and should go on to experience the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. We receive power to be our Lord's witnesses and our service for Christ becomes more effective.

Actually, no. The baptism of the Holy Spirit happens at the moment of salvation. It is not a subsequent event.

Not sure how you arrived at that conclusion.
The standard model for the baptism with the Holy Spirit was
indeed a subsequent experience to salvation.

We see this time after time in the Acts of the Apostles.
The situation with Cornelius and Peter differed in that the Holy Spirit
manifested before water baptism. But, by in large the pattern
was there in the Acts of the Apostles. A subsequent experience.

In 1 Corinthians, the missionary Paul writes, "And soothly in one Spirit all we be baptized into one body, either Jews, or heathen, or servants, or free; and all we have drunk in one Spirit." - 1 Corinthians 12:13 (WYC).

"All" means all. There are no second-class Christians.

Not sure what bearing any of that has on the baptism with the Holy Spirit not
being a subsequent event to salvation. Consider the historic model
I spoke of in the previous post.

Acts 8:14-16
When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria.
15 When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers
there that they might receive the Holy Spirit,

16 because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them;
they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Paul speaks of "all" having been baptized by the one same Spirit. I take it you do understand the meaning of the word "all."

At this point I will have to ask you,
what your purpose is in the Pentecostal part of the forum?

It appears that you do not share the same beliefs as Pentecostals and
have come here with the sole purpose of causing a disruption.

Do not share the same beliefs? Wow, that's a quick judgment on your part. We've been discussing but one thing. Wow, just wow.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. You are up to no good.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit as a subsequent experience to salvation is a
foundational Pentecostal belief. If you don't believe in that, you are not a Pentecostal.

And now you play the wounded party when you are here to cause trouble.
Keep it up and you will be reported.

Wow friend, you are quick to jump to conclusions. Our dialogue then is over. Have a good evening.

Okay, it looks like we managed to get rid of the heckler.
Let's talk about the scripture this disruptor was misusing in
a vain attempt to prove a point. Here it is.

1 Corinthians 12:13
For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as
to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—
and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

This anti-Pentecostal "proof-text" was pulled from the chapter
on manifestations (gifts) of the Holy Spirit. What this verse has to
do with proving that the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is not a
subsequent event was not clearly articulated. The heckler said
something about "no second-class Christians". (nonsense)

The very next verse reads,
14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

Put it all together and what do we have?
There is not a different spirit for each of the manifestations of the Spirit.
It is the same Spirit that unifies the whole body, even though
the body is made up of individual parts. All the same Spirit.

In the partner passage to this chapter we read.

1 Corinthians 14:1
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire
gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.

If everything the Spirit has for us is received at salvation, why would
the Apostle exhort us to "eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit"? Obviously there
is more to receive. Even after the baptism with the Holy Spirit.
