opinions?

me. i was pretty pleased with how it turned out. i was kind of surprised that The Queen only won one award, i thought it would've won a lot more. i'm happy that Little Miss Sunshine won two awards. and i was fairly pleased with The Departed. i have yet to see it, but i've been wanting to. i think there could've been better songs up for best song. i wish that "Our Town" from Cars could've won. but as long as it wasn't Dream Girls i was happy. personally, i think the music from Dream Girls seemed disapointing, i thought that the song that Lakeshia sung on idol the other day was going to be the one up for the nomination, but apparently it wasn't. i was hoping that leo would've won best actor, i admit, that after 10 years, i still have somewhat of a crush on him. and who couldn't? he's a very handsome man. :sorry: i hadn't heard of pan's labrynth, but it looks interesting. is it a french film? anyone know? and i'm intersted in seeing West Bank Story. i think it looks good. and i was happy that Happy Feet won, i still have yet to see it as well, but i was rooting for Cars. oh well.

i was very pleased overall. opinions?

I was happy overall, for someone who saw zero of the Best Pic noms (yet)... I was really happy Helen Mirren won Best Actress and Martin Scorsese *finally* won Best Director... I wish The Queen had won Best Picture, but usually the pics I want to win don't ^_^
Even though I haven't seen The Last King of Scotland, I'm glad Forest Whitaker won Best Actor... and I absolutely loved his acceptance speech!
I was hoping No Time for Nuts would win Best Animated Short, but oh well... I didn't see any of the Best Animated Feature pics so I didn't really have a fav. there.
The way they did the synopsis for each Best Pic nom really makes me want to see all of them, especially The Queen and Little Miss Sunshine LOL
And I thought Abigail Breslin and Jaden Smith presenting for Best Animated Short was absolutely adorable!

The thing my husband and I where most excited about was "Best Documentary" (that's how nerdy we are I guess you could say). We were ecstatic when "An Inconvenient Truth" won. Then we went home (because we don't have TV we watched it at my parents house) and went to bed.
It was also really cool to see Jennifer Hudson win. Can you even imagine that a few years ago no one knew who she was, then she goes on American Idol but doesn't win, makes her first movie and wins an Oscar? It's like a young performers dream come true and I thought it was pretty cool to whiteness.
I also absolutely loved the performance by Pilobolus. In college I had an amazing opportunity to take a master class with them and then see them perform, and have always been a huge fan of theirs. When I found out they where performing at the Oscars I was very excited. They exceeded my expectations (which where already pretty high), honestly that was probably the highlight of the evening for me.

and ellen is my favorite host since whoopi hosted sometime in the 90's. she had a really great opening. and i loved when she took the picture with clint eastwood. "it's for my myspace". haha. that made me laugh! and when she vaccumed the first row~ and when she had the pouch thing for carrying around the oscar. def. my favorite host in awhile.

I was very upset that Melissa Etheridge won best original song or whatever. That really aggravated me. It definitely wasn't Oscar material in my opinion. I hadn't heard the other songs, but... seriously. Ew. I was mad that Inconvenient Truth won, too. But, whatever... that's just me. And I just LOVE to hear Al Gore talk.

The Oscars seemed to just drone on... which is fine, except that all I really wanted was to see Best Picture (which I was pleased with). I also wasn't too happy with Ellen's job as host. I sort of like to think that the Academy Awards is kind of an honorable event. We don't need any hammy inappropriate jokes or songs sung by a bunch of clowns (ie. Jack Black, Will Farrel...). Yeah, I wasn't too happy. Whatever. That's just me and my own personal opinions. I'm sure they just want to appeal to a greater audience since less and less people are watching it.

Pan's Labyrinth should have won all the awards it was up for. It was such a wonderful movie. Granted, I didn't see any of the movies from the catagories, but I LOVED Pan's Labyrinth so whatever beat it must have been pretty darn good. :)

Pan's Labyrinth is a great film, I hadn't seen any of the other films it was up against so i couldn't say wether it deserved to win or not.

I think Scorcese won his Best Director oscar mainly because the academy knew it was well overdue. But Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Taxi Driver are far far better films than The Departed. Just think too, Kubrick never won an oscar for Best Director.

I agree, Scorcese's win was a pure sympathy vote because Clint Eastwood keeps beating him out for it. They even talked about for a week before hand that Scorcese deserves a win because he has been looked over for Eastwood something like 6 times. I personally don't think the Departed was worth it. Of course, I am not a big Scorcese fan either, I would rather see a Eastwood flick any day.

Scorcese does deserve the recognition though, but not for this movie.

yeah, but look at Peter O'Toole, he didn't win best actor and how many times has he been up? i think scosease won purely because it was a good movie. i have yet to see the departed, but i really want to, and i hear it's a really good movie as well.

brad pitt, smrad pitt. i can't stand him. personally, i'm glad he didn't get nominated. he bothers me like tom cruise does.

Ellen was great too, I adore her and I can't believe I forgot to mention her.
