Ellen was great too, I adore her and I can't believe I forgot to mention her.

Personally I prefer comics a little more edgy and I detest talk shows. I hated her sitcom before she came out and then loved it after she did when everybody else hated it. But I admire her for being a nicer lesbian than Rosie O'Donnell and enjoyed her in If These Walls Could Talk 2 and Mr. Wrong.

Of the best picture noms, I saw Little Miss Sunshine, Babel, and The Departed. I loved all three, but the Departed was still the weakest of the three... Babel and LMS were both brilliant, and I'd have probably given it to LMS. It was a good year for movies, though... in any given year, any of those three would've been a worthy Best Picture.

I can't believe Children of Men didn't win Best Cinematography. Wow. None of the movies came even close. There hasn't been a film so innovative and groundbreaking since The Battle of Algiers. But it's Oscars. Things like that should be expected.

And LMS wasn't that good. It didn't deserve the nod. Neither did The Departed. The Lives of Others was a much superior film. Also, Jennifer Hudson best supporting actress? Come on. Anyone in their right minds know either one of the actresses from Babel deserved it. Even Cate Blanchett in Notes On a Scandal was better.

I was surprised that Dreamgirls didn't get a best picture nomination since it won a golden globe. I didn't like The Departed nearly as well as The Queen or Little Miss Sunshine. I think maybe Martin Scorcese won best director because he has been nominated so many times and has never won..but then..Peter O'Toole has been nominated many times and he hasn't won either. I have never liked Scorcese's movies mainly because most of them have so much violence and dark characters reflecting a negative slice of life. But that is his claim to fame. Brad Pitts performance in Babel was outstanding but he didn't get nominated. And, yes, Helen Mirren, is one of the finest of our time. The Queen will long be remembered because of its subject and also because it was very well done. There was much documentary footage of Princess Diana (probably needed); but took time that may have been used by the actors more. All were so good in telling this story of a week in history which truly touched us all.

Babel. This film is upsetting and at times I really wanted to turn it off but it made me thankful I live in America. I didn't think Brad Pitt had the majority of the film.It seems actress Rinko Kikuchi(spelled ?) was what amazed me. I really thought this film was going to be different, yet I won't forget it.
