And 108 billion people later, they still don't have an answer, do they?Atheism is the natural state of the human mind, untainted by thoughts about the why or what and concerned with the how, i.e. How to survive. So atheism extends farther back than the first memory of the first human.
Because it's evidence for the existence of God.
If there wasn't any evidence, everybody would be atheists. Then you stop using your money.
Then you stop using your money.
That's probably because of the encroachment of atheists."In God we Trust" wasn't added to money until 1957.
As our pledge says, we are:JonFromMinnesota said:The United States wasn't founded with Christianity in mind.
As there is evidence for ancient extraterrestrial aliens visiting Earth, current extraterrestrial aliens visiting Earth (and abductions!), and crop circles being more than just some wheat stalks flattened by a couple of guys with planks and some string, but it is the quality of which that leaves me unconvinced.Because it's evidence for the existence of God.
Is that the "God" that allegedly walked and talked in a garden that has no evidence of having existed, poofed people and animals into existence, and later, in a manner contrary to the modern understanding of genetics, populated the planet with a tiny group of individuals and animals that survived a global flood in an unbuildable boat, a flood that killed the dinosaurs in a manner that only *appears* to be 65 million years ago, because the Earth is really only somehow 6000 years old, yet remains, by every objective measure to date indistinguishable from nothing? Or are there some in your country that believe otherwise?IN GOD WE TRUST!
America wasn't built on guys that were "unconvinced."As there is evidence for ancient extraterrestrial aliens visiting Earth, current extraterrestrial aliens visiting Earth (and abductions!), and crop circles being more than just some wheat stalks flattened by a couple of guys with planks and some string, but it is the quality of which that leaves me unconvinced.
Sounds like you've heard of Him.Is that the "God" that allegedly walked and talked in a garden that has no evidence of having existed, poofed people and animals into existence, and later, in a manner contrary to the modern understanding of genetics, populated the planet with a tiny group of individuals and animals that survived a global flood in an unbuildable boat, a flood that killed the dinosaurs in a manner that only *appears* to be 65 million years ago, because the Earth is really only somehow 6000 years old, yet remains, by every objective measure to date indistinguishable from nothing? Is this "conviction" supposed to, in some mysterious manner, convince me of the veracity of their beliefs?America wasn't built on guys that were "unconvinced."
America's churches, hymns, songs, organizations, martyrs, etc. came from a breed of people with strong convictions.
As our pledge says, we are:
ONE NATION UNDER GOD.
That's probably because of the encroachment of atheists.
ONE NATION UNDER GOD.
I have seen many and wildly different god claims in these forums. Is the god in that phrase Christian or Jewish?Sounds like you've heard of Him.
In my country, particularly where I live, religion is thin on the ground. In 50 years, I have only encountered one young-Earth creationist, and he was a Muslim. Religion is just not a subject that comes up for discussion. It's hard not to in this country, isn't it?
Another good question is: "And what happened before that?"
Eventually, they have to admit they don't know...which of course they deny even after admitting to it.
You seem to have an aversion to the phrase "I don't know." Such a response is intellectually honest when one genuinely does not know. Many believers claim to know, but the answers they give seem to advance our understanding no further than "I don't know."Yes, it is a good question Scott. Atheists are safe on their own ground where they have learnt to parrot answers but take them out of that and they are floundering big time. My own feeling is that unless you can comprehend how life began, you cannot make any suppositions or claims about anything else. That is where we christians who know the word of God are streets ahead because we have total assurance that in the beginning God created the heavens and earth and everything else follows on from that.
Thanks for your contributions here. They are much appreciated.
As you claim to comprehend how life began, can you explain it in detail here, beyond "a god did it"?Yes, it is a good question Scott. Yes.Is this "conviction" supposed to, in some mysterious manner, convince me of the veracity of their beliefs?
That's why I say "I don't know" to the "How life began" question. I'm glad science continues trying to answer that question. Science has a pretty good track record of explaining things we didn't understand before. I am content with "I don't know" to that question. I think pretending to know is a road block to knowledge. God of the Gaps doesn't help us learn new things.Provide the evidence.
