The only question you need the answer to is .....

WHY.

That's it isn't it? We all want to know why. Why am I this way? Why did that happen to me? Why did that person do that? Why am I here? Why Why Why and the list goes on. But if we could truly get an answer to any question, it would be a WHY question (at least from my perspective ;))
Thoughts?

What WHY question do you want the answers to? I have more than one. Too many probably lol.
I would like to know why can't I lose weight?
Why can't I get my finances under control?
Why can't I stop doing things I know I shouldn't?
Why am I single now?
Why are crazy people stealing children and mothers are killing them?
Why isn't the government for the people anymore?
Why does my teenage son want snake bite piercings on his face?

OK I'll stop. I have all the questions but none of the answers.
What are your WHY questions?

My ultimate question is more of a "what" question:
What does God want me to do with my life?
The answer's getting a bit clearer, but I wish I knew it for sure. I function much better with a solid goal in mind :)

That would be a different thread....;) j/k. I understand what you're saying (no pun intended). I feel the same way. I always say, why doesn't God tell us how to play the game, what play should we do now? But....it's not how he rolls

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail your thread :) Guess I don't have a very inquisitive mind. I'd just like to know what to DO :D

I'd love to know why some people have their minds closed towards God.
And why people still think Richard Dawkins is believable.

I said J/K! But the questions you posed above I very much would like to know also.

I have TONS of why questions but part of what I've learned and continue to learn is the 'why' questions are exactly why we have faith. We don't know the answers to most of the big why questions, only God does. So I have to put my trust in Him and believe that as hard as my mind is fighting to understand and as much as my emotions are screaming out to know the answers - only God knows and I need to exercise my faith and trust Him. And exercising those faith muscles is very, very, very hard work at times. :|

Cool concept for a thread. I may have to steal it for use on another forum. (If that's okay. =))

Personally my big 'why' question right now is 'Why can't people understand *insert issue/concern/struggle/point of view*?'

don't say "steal" on a Christian forum ;). Feel free however to use my idea.

I do agree with you on the faith part, but I believe that sometimes we do need to figure out the WHY questions so we don't make the same mistakes over and over and so we can grow in the Lord. If we never question ourselves or have why questions how will we ever learn anything about ourselves and WHY we act a certain way or WHY we are where we are, or WHY do we keep having the same issues. So while I also VERY MUCH put my trust in the Lord and FWIW I stopped asking God WHY a long time ago. I was more or less talking about questions WE have with life and people. Questioning God is never a good idea and for me, I have found he doesn't answer WHY questions, BUT alot of times they become apparent after the fact.

Gotcha  I understand what you're saying and yes, I agree...there are some 'why' questions we do need to seek the answers to so that we don't repeat the same mistakes over and over.

I was thinking more along the big 'why' questions...like why am I still single...or why are children abused....or why do is there cancer and illness in this world, etc :)

I hear ya, and I have those too. One of them right now is WHY are there so many missing children in Florida? But the "why am I still single" could be a question to foster some growth in. I sometimes think (know) that maybe I am sending mixed signals. It's like I don't want to be single, but I don't want to necessarily be married and the really big question for me is how can I make sure he isn't a serial killer, liar, loser, cheater or some other God aweful kind of person?

Same here. Even Meyers-Brigg personality typing divides the world into "why" people and "what if" people. I am more of a "what if" person.

I tend to turn the "why" questions into "what" questions. For instance, "why am I single?" becomes "what do I need to change/learn about myself so that I will be ready for a relationship?"

To me, "why" transfers ownership of the issue away from the person with the issue. "What" is actively seeking a way to change whatever it is that needs changing.

To apply that to the missing children in FL - the "why" becomes "what should these parents be doing differently/better to better protect their children?"

Why can't I get my finances under control? (I too wonder this one!)
Why can't I be more consistent with exercise/eating right?
Why haven't the Cubs won a World Series in 100 years???
Why did my cousin have to die so soon?
Why do all the good people get cancer?
Why do drunk drivers kill others and yet come away from a wreck without hardly a scratch?
Why are so many children being victimized, abused, murdered, kidnapped, neglected?
Why does it seem like good people get all of the garbage in life and greedy, evil people live in luxury without a care in the world?
Why can't I figure out what I want to do with my life?
Why am I so tired?
Why can't I live somewhere closer to a nice beach???? lol

Well I wonder where I would fit in cuz I'm kind of a "why" AND "what if" kind of person :D

I tend to turn the "why" questions into "what" questions. For instance, "why am I single?" becomes "what do I need to change/learn about myself so that I will be ready for a relationship?"

Then you could go on to the WHEN question after you do the what question right ;) "WHEN will I be ready for a relationship?" :p

To me, "why" transfers ownership of the issue away from the person with the issue. "What" is actively seeking a way to change whatever it is that needs changing.

To apply that to the missing children in FL - the "why" becomes "what should these parents be doing differently/better to better protect their children?"

I agree or WHAT can we do to stop these parents!

Why does it seem like the gay lifestyle is so appealing to so many people? ugh!!!! (Is it just me or does it seem like everyone who isn't a Christian is going this way??? yuck!)

Yeah, now they want to stifle preachers being able to quote the Bible if it's against Homosexuality. So I guess the truth is no longer the truth, huh?

WHY is the big question I am always asking myself.

(Why did she reject me)
ETC

See..I know right? That's WHY I started this thread. We would be so much smarter if we could answer this question about things in life.....WHY?

BTW FWIW, I know we really can't answer the question all the time or even most of the time. Someday when we meet Jesus we will maybe know why, but not now. It's just how my mind works ya know? Always analytical, always wondering why, what if, what can I do to change, where should I go, when should I do this or that. I can't help it, but I'm glad I care enough to ponder it. God gave me this gift for a reason. Someday I will figure out WHY
