  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Wow...that's a narrow view you got there! Are there some "reporters" who go just for the scoop? Yep. But many journalists are out there to show the world to those who otherwise won't look at it that way.

There are many other journalist types other than the mass media kind, and many really do try to inform rather than sensationalise.

And besides, any smart journalist would know that an interview with the president would get you much farther than letting him or her die...and probably it would get you White House perks! :p

Not for long. Once they graduate they see there is no real success in the busines without sensationalizing and appealing to their employers which fo rthe most part are eastern liberals.

Greetings!

Hmmm, yes, I would certainly pull him from the water. No matter what kind of man or president he is, I do not let the transgressions of another dictate who or what I am, and I value life. I would ensure that he was all right, no broken bones, no serious injuries and such. And then I would give him a right hook that would knock him out of his shoes. :)

Yes, we get it: TV news sensationalizes stuff. But otherwise, your assessement is incorrect.

First off, many people aren't greedy. They are happy with moderate success and moderate professional income. There are science, medical, economical, business, social, fine arts, political, and other journalists that are not all about "what bleeds leads" but about informing, about learning, about showing other perspectives. And, don't forget the millions of local journalists who just want to cover what's going on around them and keep people informed of what's about town.

Where is the proof that mass media outlets are controlled by "eastern liberals"? Last time I checked, most mass media outlets run themselves off of capitalism - selling what sells. And what sells? Glorification of violence, sex, etc. It wouldn't sell if people didn't buy, period. That's not a partisan thing; that's a capitalism thing.

Which, when it's all considered, is why the OP is tragic and inaccurate all at the same time. But it's still kinda amusing.

This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision.

Remember that your answer needs to be honest, and spontaneous. Please scroll down slowly and give due consideration to each line.

THE SITUATION
You are in New Orleans, There is chaos all around
you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. You
are a photo journalist working for a major newspaper
and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster.

You're trying to shoot career-making photos.
There are houses and people swirling around you,
and disappearing under the water.

THE TEST
Suddenly you see a man in the water. He is
fighting for his life, trying
not to be taken down with the debris. You move
closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly
realize who it is. It's the President, George W.
Bush.

At the same time you notice that the raging
waters are about to take him
under forever. You have two options- you can save
the life of the President,
or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize
winning photo, documenting the
death of one of the world's most famous men.

THE QUESTION
Here's the question, and please give an honest
answer.......

Would you select high contrast colour film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?
Color film.^_^
Actually, I might try to save him, but somehow get him locked away from the public so he can't bother us anymore.

Yeah, he's fixin to be my commander in chief too (not really fixin to, I actually have till next july). Doesn't mean I have to like him.

As to the people claiming it's so not funny, my guess is that you're republicans? I'm a john stewart kind of guy, meaning I like to make fun of everyone and everything no matter if I agree with it or not. Even if I liked bush I probably would still have found this funny. People who get all offended at stuff like this (I don't know if you're actually offended or not) really need to stop taking themselves so seriously.

I would save him. I would finish whatever I was doing at the time, then go golfing. After this I would call a few people and discuss our options. I would sleep on it for a few days. I would get a guy who does not own a boat or know how to swim and put him in chage of the rescue, then I would go on a phototour telling anyone who would listen how great a job the guy was doing. I would hire a crop duster and fly over the president with a concerned look on my face as I made my way to Moab. From there I would direct my friends and family to start criticising the handling of the president's situation by a local guy named Eddy. After people started sending me hate mail, I would finally get down there and pull him out of the water. But I would definately save the guy.

Spin, I love you.

Oh...black and white.

Despite the jerk that Bush is, I think he will suffer much more in drowing to death than I will suffer for not being able to get a nice shot of him drowning - its only ethical that I save the president.

Now that I've said that, what does each alternative imply about our morality?

Ah...here's the kicker...if he's about to go under, then it's likely you might go under too if you tried to save him...assuming you had to swim to him.

First rule of lifesaving...don't endanger yourself. So Georgie-porgie dies.

And I'd use my digital camera and do a greyscale in Photoshop...
