  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision.

Remember that your answer needs to be honest, and spontaneous. Please scroll down slowly and give due consideration to each line.

THE SITUATION
You are in New Orleans, There is chaos all around
you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. You
are a photo journalist working for a major newspaper
and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster.

You're trying to shoot career-making photos.
There are houses and people swirling around you,
and disappearing under the water.

THE TEST
Suddenly you see a man in the water. He is
fighting for his life, trying
not to be taken down with the debris. You move
closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly
realize who it is. It's the President, George W.
Bush.

At the same time you notice that the raging
waters are about to take him
under forever. You have two options- you can save
the life of the President,
or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize
winning photo, documenting the
death of one of the world's most famous men.

THE QUESTION
Here's the question, and please give an honest
answer.......

Would you select high contrast colour film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

high contrast colour film...

...however if saving him had been an option I would have done that first. I think the man is evil however he is what the American people seem to want and my love for all us brain damaged Americans is greater than my disgust for Bush.

Hey, there's an urban legend about this one!

A young guy dives in and hauls him to safety, only then realizing who he is.
"Is there anything that I can do for you? Anythign at all." Offers Bush.
"Yeah. Don't tell anyone about this."
"Why?"
"Because when my dad finds out I saved George Bush, he's going to kill me."

And I'd save him.

Oh, sheesh. That's easy.

Well, I'd swim over, taking photos with the extra water-proof camera I keep in my purse, and I'd save President Bush, then I'd take a few more pictures of him (using both black and white and high-resolution, because I'd have both my film camera and digital with me, along with my trusty water-proof back-up) thanking me, and showing the raging waters that he was saved from.

I get a *whatever the American version of the Order of Canada is* and a Pulitzer Prize for having the exclusive story with George W. Bush in the aftermath of a disaster, and a picture of him, from the water, being rescued.

Yay waterproof cameras!

I would save him. I would finish whatever I was doing at the time, then go golfing. After this I would call a few people and discuss our options. I would sleep on it for a few days. I would get a guy who does not own a boat or know how to swim and put him in chage of the rescue, then I would go on a phototour telling anyone who would listen how great a job the guy was doing. I would hire a crop duster and fly over the president with a concerned look on my face as I made my way to Moab. From there I would direct my friends and family to start criticising the handling of the president's situation by a local guy named Eddy. After people started sending me hate mail, I would finally get down there and pull him out of the water. But I would definately save the guy.

Black and white

as for the test, one would try to save bush without any regards to the film, until he was out of harm's way eneugh to get back to shooting pictures.

If I were a journalist / photographer that would necessarily mean I have no morals or scruples. All I would be interested in is the "scoop". So, either I sell out my brother journalists and rejoin the human race to save ANY human being, or I go for the shot... nah, we're talkin the Pulitzer!

Wow...that's a narrow view you got there! Are there some "reporters" who go just for the scoop? Yep. But many journalists are out there to show the world to those who otherwise won't look at it that way.

There are many other journalist types other than the mass media kind, and many really do try to inform rather than sensationalise.

And besides, any smart journalist would know that an interview with the president would get you much farther than letting him or her die...and probably it would get you White House perks! :p
