Saw it today. I think it was okay, worth the price of admission atleast. But, I don't think it did justice to the original. Granted I havent seen the original(s) in a while. I hope they play them on the movie channels since it's opening week.
And they do make him out to be charming later down the line, as I recall. Actually in the original he was likeable and innocent until you started to see what he was capable of. Same with the remake, actually the remake kid was adorable. So it was harder to see him as evil. The movie features a lot of people struggling against their notions of kids being innocent and seeing this evil incarnated into a child. The original is much more effective with it's sense of dread.
But the creepiest part of the movie was not the movie itself, it was the fact that the theater was PACKED like it was friday night or something. Lines around the building for a movie on a tuesday night. And the whole audience was laughing and clapping and cheering everytime someone died. It just bothered me for some reason (other than being annoying and ruining every scary moment for me). I get the impression the reason people flocked to see this on 6-6-6 is because they felt they were somehow 'celebrating' the date by seeing the movie. Not everyone obviously but I think some were. Ironically the movie is not painting a heroic portrait of the anti-christ or the devil, it's very much making them out to be very bad guys. If satan has his hand in anything it's definately marketing schemes, hah.
