The English version is hilarious! Got the first sereis on DVD, wanna get more, though.

The American version's about as funny waking up one morning to realise you're HIV positive and even then I'd probably laugh more at the latter.
Have you watched past the first season?

I agree that the BBC version is better than the first season of the American series, but, in my mind, that is where the comparison should end.

Half way into the second season, I believe the USA version grows its own wings and is very entertaining. The characters have more time to be developed.

I was watching an episode from Season 4 last night. I totally missed it during the original airing when, at the house party, Michael is drinking wine and says it has an "oaky afterbirth."

Someone got me into it last year and now it's my favorite comedy. I have a few friends who don't like it a lot because they've never worked in an office environment, that has to help. But I think it's comedy gold overall. Stuck in reruns right now though! I have waiting for resolution with Pam and Jim! :p

The UK version was great. The US version is also great. Both are surprisingly realistic portrayals of office life (though quite a bit exaggerated). Why do people feel like they have to choose one over the other?

Please note, I'm not trying to start a debate. I'm just saying they are based on the same concept and share very little else in common. That is all.

I love The Office! I've never seen the British version but I try to never miss the American version. I did a lot of general office and customer service work before I went to graduate school and I can relate to just about all of the characters. I have to say that my favorite character is Michael Scott because he is so gloriously clueless to his uncoolness... he reminds me of many former bosses who tried a little too hard to be "hip" and popular.

I have to say, I really like the outcome of the Dwight/Angela/Andy triangle. Very fitting.

Last week's episode was also very interesting. Showed some great emotional range from Michael and inserted a dose of reality back into the show - they are a business in an eat or be eaten world.
