Anyone can tell this won't be U2's last album and tour, and for that I'm very much relieved. ...

Yeah.. Bono said he wants to make a couple of more records during an interview. It's just when Indigo tree posted Adams Birthday It hit me that their getting older, i never really cared or thought about it much before. I personally would prefer if they stop when they hit their 50's IMO. But Hey! at least Larry dosen't Age, he still looks like he is in his late 20's. So he keeps the band looking youngish....

Bono's voice sounded good on Popmart? Need I pull out my copy of 23 September 1997, Sarajevo to show the opposite? I feel his voice hit an all-time low on Popmart and really improved for Elevation. He's still got it in him - just look at the transition from All I Want Is You to Streets on the Slane DVD, that's awesome! - and I'm really not worried. All the latest material caters for his vocal deterioration (which, for the record, first struck on the Lovetown tour), so while older stuff may not sound as spectacular, anything from the 1990s onwards will, especially post-Pop.

I know he had trouble with his voice during Popmart and also with his Smoking and alcohol, i heard he had to go counseling and nearly spit- up the band. But He sounds clear on the Mexico tape. I used to have an interview they did with Tripple M in 2000, i had it on mp3. and Adam said his voice changed while they were making atclb I'm trying to find it on the net. It's here though http://www.u2archive.com/in_u2000.shtml .Your right, He's voice sucked on a few lovetown shows especially Dortmund.

Also the transition he does All I Want Is You to Streets on the Slane DVD is what you say "Awesome" I wish they did the first the first slane though because they added a few extra tracks, and the transitions between Bad and Streets is more intense and electrifying, But i am sooo pleased they released Slane, i signed the petition and all.

And if his voice does die on him, Edge has a wonderful voice! I sent Sunday Bloody Sunday, Edge solo from Sarajevo to my best friend and she said Edge's voice was so beautiful it made her cry.

Ohh Yes.... but i find Adams voice is more beautiful though.

So your going to the US for the first shows Axver? thats awesome!! I wish i had the time and money. Don't forget to tape some shows for us.

Also Indigo Tree who is that in your Avatar? I'm curious, I have thought of changing my Avatar so many times But haven't got around to it.

Just to add on, I got one of those Net MD's, it's really cool. Currently moving a heap of U2 concerts on to those MD's to listen to on the way to work.

O.K, I'm rambling on now Yawn's... I really have to go to bed now..........

Good night

Heh, Larry never seems to age, especially with having the same hairstyle for over twenty years! I know Bono once said that he didn't want to be playing into his sixties ... being older doesn't help them because some morons judge a band by their age, but Edge is a perfectionist so they're not going to release sub-standard material. I think they should keep playing as long as they still love it and are making music they and the fans like.

Bono's biggest vocal issues come from using his voice improperly. Throughout the 1980s, he would sing notes four or five times in a single song that opera singers only do once a month. On a tour, and I'm erring on the side of caution here, let's assume he sings that note four times in each song of a twenty song set, and there's ten concerts that month. That's a total of eight hundred times. It's a miracle he has any voice at all. The guy never had singing lessons until the end of Lovetown. Then there's the alcohol and smoking, and the fact that rigorous touring schedules really overwork it ... it's remarkable how good he still sounds. I'll have to check out the link you gave.

Yeah, I love Slane 1. A Sort Of Homecoming! I love that song so much. You signed the petition? I wish I'd had the chance ...

Yeah, well I'm going to try to. I think I'll have the money, and I have some friends over there so hopefully I'll be able to stay with them. I'm going to see how things go. I wish I had taping equipment ...

Thanks for the info Axver! i'ts amazing how much you know about them, it really is. Where do you get all this info? it would take me forever to search it on the net, I have the "into the heart" book, thats pretty much enough for me. And about Bono's voice and age, i sort of apologize for being a little too critical, i was just listening to electrical storm and he sounds rather young and fresh on it. I'm struggling to accept i'm getting older, let alone U2. Also That link i gave does not have the Mp3 of the interview its only for trade "10-30-2000 Triple M Interview " it's on the FTP where i downloaded it but i can't find it anymore i'll keep searching because Adam commented on Bono's voice when making the Album.

I wish i had more time to post on this whole forum, and listen to more U2 :sigh:

God bless

Basically, I spend a good deal of my time online on U2 websites or talking to U2 fans, and I have a very good memory, so combine the two and there's where the knowledge comes from. I'm also a compulsive downloader and file saver. I don't go on the FTP much because I'm dangerous once I get on there!

I was very surprised with both Electrical Storm and The Hands That Built America. He sounds very youthful, and live performances of Hands have been great. I've heard a lot of criticism, but I guess we'll only really know what the state of his voice is once they get on tour. It's nothing like what it was ten years ago, though. He couldn't sing Lemon now, and the falsetto from Can't Help Falling In Love With You *drool* is probably well beyond him. But he can probably still wail like a banshee if they decide to do a full band version of Please again!

That would be T.H. White, author of The Once and Future King, which I love.

Yes, Bonos voice in "Hands" is rather amazing.

I do understand what your saying, Janine, about not wanting them to go on into thier 50s, but I belive Ax right on about the stereotype against older bands.I wouldn't mind much if U2 went on past thier 50s. I've always thought they are rather youthful looking for being in thier 40s. Who says they can't pull it off in thier 50s?

OK, i've never heard of T.H. White author of "The Once and Future King" But i loved Lord of the rings in which you obviously do too. I miss that avatar :)

And i do believe that U2 will pull it off over their 50's. No other Band has ever been as creative as them, they keep reinventing themselves every 10 years it seems. So when this decade has passed, there will be a new U2. I just hate them ageing, it really bothers me, I often wish God could bring back the 1000 year life span, just for the band, you know.

And Axver, have you heard the full band version of please" into Streets" from the Baltimore show? I was suprised when i first heard it, i really like that version of please, it seems to have a different drum beat! On the transition he didn't do that wailing sound , and i thought he was going to do it, it sounded like he was going to attempt it. maybe next time..

And what songs do you think they will reinvent next tour? And do you think it's going to be a full world tour like popmart with the stadiums and all? I think if they do a full world tour they will prefer stadiums, cause that means one show instead of 3 nights in a row.

I need to be quick ...

I didn't know they did full band Please on Elevation. WOW! That's just AWESOME. I'll have to hear that. I'm currently organising a trade with someone in New Zealand with a fairly extensive list so I'll have to see if he's got it.

Electrical Storm? I'm not sure what it means ... I've read speculation. Perhaps about someone who's going through difficulties in their life and they're not seeing the way out, but there's a way back to 'love and only love'? I have no idea, I just pulled that out of thin air.

Perhaps I will bring Frodo back someday.:) I'm glad you love the Lord of the Rings. Wonderful trilogy.

As for Please live-Its AWESOME. I have a DVD I got with thier best of 1990-2000 album, and on it it has a live video of Please on it. Its incredible.

As for electrical storm, it always seemed to me to be addressing a problem in a man/women relationship.*shrug*

I agree, and that version comes from the Please EP. And has a mind blowing version of streets on it. I haven't got the best of DVD yet I'll get it when i have the time.

Thats what i thought when i first heard it, and i thought there must be more story to it. i have the "into the heart" book which has the story of every song to alclb, in which Bono i think told the Author. I'll just wait until the next update.

If you ever get the time indigo tree, i would like to know what you have in your U2 collection? Just out of curiosity. :pink:

And Axver 2001-10-19 is the show when they did the full band of please.

Yep, and I'm trading for it at the moment! I met a guy in NZ with some cool stuff, so we're doing a trade. I'm getting from him;

- 15 March 1981, Reseda
- 18 December 1989, Amsterdam
- 19 October 2001, Baltimore
- 18 November 2001, Las Vegas
- 30 November 2001, Atlanta

Yeah, it's my typical 8:8 trade. Though I'm doing 10:10 with one fellow in England. That's going to be a cool trade.

By the way, Philadelphia, 12 June 2001: Bono quotes Do You Feel Loved during Streets. Just noticed that one.

Lucky their easy to put in. but i don't have the time to listen to all the shows ;) And i downloaded the special Olympics video, an awesome performance of one!

Ah, nice. I'm going to transfer all my stuff onto CD sometime soon because I want to be on the safe side and not lose anything should my computer go down! Have you ever tried a hub on DC++? Apparently that's really good, I know someone who downloaded every single Elevation tour show from there. I'm thinking of getting that but I'm dangerous when I get on FTPs, hubs, and the like, so I may not. For me, if I see U2 stuff I don't have, I download! But I love trading so I don't want to fill my collection up with too much mp3 stuff.

And i downloaded the special Olympics video, an awesome performance of one!
Oooh, I'll have to get that, I just have an mp3 of Pride at the moment.

Yeah, when I saw the last poster on this thread and didn't recognise it, I came on here expecting to see a new U2 fan, then I saw your post, and began looking for the mysterious next one below it ... only then did I spot your PS and new screen name! Hehe.

For the record, my fav U2 song has to be 'Sunday Bloody Sunday.' I still haven't gotten tired of listening to that song even after nearly 20 years of hearing it.

You and me BOTH!

How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? How long...

The real battle just begun
To claim the victory Jesus won
On...

YES!! Oh but wait......you gotta love PRIDE (In the Name of Love)!!!!

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come, he to justify
One man to overthrow

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach.
One man betrayed with a kiss

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

(nobody like you...)

Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

I always get chills from this song! Man there will NEVER be a group like them. I remember when they hit the cover of Time Mag.....(I am old!) I knew they were the next Rolling Stones only better....

There is not a song that I can think of that I do not like, some I had to get accustomed to ...but eventually, loved! Thanks for the old memories!!
