First - watch this one - it brings you to the sadness you will experience in the next one.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - YouTube

THEN

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - YouTube

Then pray for the souls of the crew. 36 and one half years later... :crossrc:

I actually remember that storm---I was just shy of fifteen. We had some trees come down around our house.

And I remember when Gordon Lightfoot came out with that song---the local radio stations played it over....and over.....and over.....and over.....and over..... :sigh:

And on that note - might as well pull out some more oldies. :)

Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown. - YouTube

Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks 1974 - YouTube
I like some seventies stuff. Good era of music. And some really hauntingly sad songs. Maybe why i like that period.... nostalgic, eerily persistent ebbing in my heart.
Yup. That pretty much describes my artistic side when i listen to this stuff.
HYPNOTIC.

"Sundown" is okay, but if I never hear "Seasons in the Sun" again, it'll be too soon.

"Goodbye, my friends, it's hard to die....."

Please, Terry: do us all a favor, and do it, no matter how hard it is, okay? Anything, as long as you shut up and stop singing!

Somebody woke up cranky. :p
I love that song - i think it is about someone dying slowly of disease.
I cry to that song especially if i know someone sick or dying.

I have not head the Edmund Fitzgerald in a while. I actually cannot even remember the last time i heard it. But i used to hear it in the car sometimes. I guess i didnt get to hear it as much as you. :groupray:

LOL. :)

The original French version wasn't so poignant---in the last two verses the singer bids goodbye to both his unfaithful wife....and her adulterous lover.

It was a huge hit in Michigan; for a long time in 1976-'77 you literally could not get away from it. I remember my Dad turning on the radio in our old 1970 Chevy Impala and picking it up; he hit one of the pushbuttons for another station, and that station was playing it as well. He hit another pushbutton, and a third station was playing it as well. He snarled a profane imprecation and switched the radio over to AM, and got the Detroit Tiger ball game. The Tigers were losing, of course, but that was to be expected. :p

Dad would have rather listened to George Kell talking about Mark Fidrych instead of pop music anyway. :)
