Yes, this is indeed a notable point. We Americans provide substantial charitable contributions globally. No other country can match the amount of foreign aid, private donations, or missionary support that we offer around the world.

Despite the fact that Americans comprise only 5% of the global population, USA hold approximately 30% of the world's wealth. Here is an overview of charitable donations outside the United States:

Philanthropic Contributions: In 2023, philanthropic contributions amounted to $49 billion. While this seems like a significant amount, it represents only about 0.23% of the Gross National Income (GNI).

Foreign Aid (US Government): In 2023, foreign aid provided by the US government totaled $71 billion, which is approximately 0.3% of the US Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Individual Giving: The United States leads in individual charitable giving compared to other countries. However, there is no specific data on how much of these individual donations are directed overseas.

Americans are known for our charitable contributions. However, when comparing the available resources and high income, the donation rate is less than 1%.
We donate less to foreign aid percentage of GDP--although it prevents wars and terrorism.

Top federal agency exposed for spending billions on migrants in a single year

The Biden administration spent tens of billions of dollars on grants to migrants and refugees through one of its government agencies, including over $10 billion in just one year, according to a new watchdog report.
That would be Congress which does appropriations.
The watchdog group Open the Books looked at grants to nonprofits awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Refugee Resettlement. Its responsibilities include caring for unaccompanied migrant children who crossed the southern border illegally and refugees entering legally.
Do you think that refugee settlement should only be the responsibility of the individual states? Do you think that the unaccompanied children should be simply left to their own devices?
The watchdog found that in FY 2021, it distributed $2.4 billion in grants to nonprofits. In FY 2022, it distributed $3.4 billion, then that number skyrocketed up to $10 billion in FY 2023 before being reduced to $4.2 billion in FY 2024.
Okay, and? Are nonprofits supposed to operate with purely private funding for public matters?

*asylees* not *asylumees* - had to look that one up

Especially the part about separating parents from their children.

"Donald Trump wanted to reinstate the policy during his presidency and said after leaving office that separating parents from their children is an effective deterrent."

Trump administration toughens restrictions on families trying to reunite with migrant children

Parents and families are finding it harder to reunite with migrant children in federal custody after the Trump administration tightened security restrictions on sponsorships, according to lawyers and other advocates who work with them.

The rules have put some undocumented families in a desperate situation, leaving children who crossed the border unaccompanied languishing for months in the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, the advocates say.

Among the raft of new rules implemented since January is a requirement that families provide proof of their income source, show a U.S. identification and in many cases take a DNA test. Scheduling a test can take weeks in some states.

“These families are put in an impossible bind,” Chew said. They’re being asked to “submit documents they legally can’t obtain, comply with procedures that expose them to immigration enforcement and wait indefinitely while their children remain in detention. They are being systematically set up to fail.”

“What we’re witnessing isn’t just bureaucratic dysfunction — it’s a calculated strategy to prolong child detention, discourage and impede reunification, and extract as much personal data as possible for future immigration enforcement,” Chew said.

Not "exposed" it's what we do under every administration to help refugees as they seek refugee status. Like those brave Afghans who risked their lives helping our military there, who are now here under refugee protection. That protection Trump revoked and they will now have to return and face the Taliban Trump released from prison. I would like to think those people whose leader asked them to help the least of us, would have some compassion. Btw, you will see the numbers are lower in 2021 and 2022 and yes rose dramatically in 2023. Now what event happened during those years that may have impacted peoples ability to claim refugee status in America?
