Does he hold to the broad view of ecumenicity that JPII held to? Some have suggested that Ratzinger wrote the document and JPII signed off on it.
I would have to agree. I believe he will continue quite seamlessly in JPII's work. He's already scheduled to meet the main Rabbi in Rome. While that's nice and all I don't see how that helps Catholic's here in the USA. It just seems the RCC is just becoming more & more accepting...at least that's the message that's being passed down. :preach:

Firstly, Servetus was under a global condemnation. He had escaped from a Roman Catholic prison where he surely would have died. Secondly he continued to preach a form of unitarianism, which had been declared heresy in all Christian lands. Thirdly, this was another age where such offenses were dealt with much more harshly than in our time where we allow anyone to say whatever they want no matter how harmful or dangerous, even to the extent of allowing groups such as NAMBLA to exist.

Finally, John Calvin had no desire to see Servetus burn. Yes, Calvin agreed with the law of the land at the time that Servetus was duly guily and rightly should die for his crime, but Calvin pleaded with the Genevan administration to be merciful in their execution. They disregarded Calvin's request and burnt him.

Now that I've provided you with a bit of history on the subject which you saw fit to joke about (not that I find the burning of another human being something humorus), perhaps you might admit that 1) Servetus was a declared heretic in all the Christian world, and 2) it was not "J.C." Calvin who executed the heretic Servetus but the civil authorities of Geneva.

Simply tossing out historical inaccuracies in no way proves anything at all.

What are your thoughts about this guy? Not that it really matters, especially to reformed people, but he is the most prominent representative of Christianity on the planet(sad I know), anyways any thoughts?

Honestly, it makes very little difference to me personally. For the sake of Catholics I am glad this guy is conservative.

Though, as an American, I have to say that the name "Benedict" rings an ill tone. Though it is just a name.....

He is currently involved in covering up a high level priest accused in a sexual scandal, was critical of the American press coverage of the Roman Catholic priests sexual scandals, was a Nazi, and believes you can only go to heaven if you're a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

What do I think? I think he's awful. :liturgy:

Because he was forced into the Hitler Youth?

Well, actually, no, he doesn't.

I'm no Roman Catholic, but let's not let our concern about their beliefs cause us to stretch the truth...

Given your very few number of posts I will assume that this is a run-by post.

In the event that it is not I challenge you to present proof on any of this.

I do not agree with RCC teachings. However, this form of personal attack is unfounded and demeans all protestants.

I doubt if he was forced into the Hitler youth movement, it wasn't exactly someone was forced into.

I strongly disagree with this statement.

From the site

http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/hitleryouth/hj-prelude.htm

Mandatory Participation

On December 1, 1936, Hitler decreed "The Law concerning the Hitler Youth" which mandated that all young Germans (excluding Jews) would "be educated physically, intellectually and morally in the spirit of National Socialism" though the Hitler Youth from the age of ten onward. This law also effectively ended the Catholic Youth Organization which had managed to hold for three years amid continual Nazi harrassment.

Parents who prevented their children from joining the Hitler Youth were subject to heavy prison sentences. Membership thus grew to nearly six million. As a result, the organization sprouted into a giant bureaucracy in Berlin and began to acquire the dreariness of a big governmental institution in marked contrast to the dynamic organization it had been in the 1920s and early '30s when members battled daily to bring Hitler to power. The compulsory nature of weekly HJ meetings for everyone led to a gradual decline in morale and discipline.

Please note that Pope Benedict XVI was born in 1927. He turned ten in 1937. He had no choice.

I feel it would be better to do away with all popes , we don't need them , not even the orthodox (who in many ways are similar to RCC) don't need a Pope and never have!

I look forward to the day when the Vatican and all it stands for is completely gone.

ps. I mean no offense to any Roman Catholic , I am sure many of them know the Lord .
