Could you clarify what "Church" you are speaking about? And in what way is it changed from the Church that was founded by Jesus Christ upon Peter?

When I speak of the institutional church, I mean every form of Chrisitianity that is organized, be it Catholic, Protestant--whatever. I am not talking about the members of these churches but the often immovable policies which lack the flexibility to be effective in meeting the real needs of society. By this I don't imply that the church should tolerate the increasing decadence of the world in order to maintain that relevancy. That it has often done just that is part of the problem. Rather, the true dynamic of the gospel is witnessed only when believers say no to the narcissism so prevalent in the last century and when they begin to extend the unconditional love of Jesus to the world and to one another in ways that are radically removed from the ineffectiveness of systems that have become too bogged down in bureaucracy to any longer function in the way they were originally intended to.

You would do well to know that, in all essential respects, the same Church founded by Jesus Christ upon Peter. I know this would probably spark debate here, but I've started another thread already discussing this topic if you're interested, which you do seem to be.

Start with Constantine's 'conversion'.
Look at Cannon 9 & William Tyndale.
Read "Spiritual Exercises" by Ignatious de Loyola,
the first Jesuit & counter-reformationist.
Or visit Tupper Saucey's site.
He wrote "Rulers Of Evil".
Google it. Listing it here would likely get me banned.

The lost witness the church everyday, but what are they witnessing? Does division and infighting and spending our fortunes on ourselves witness the selfless, caring, compassionate, unconditionally loving and forgiving Christ to them? The very things which would make them want to run after what we have? I think not. The institutional church is indeed off base.
amen... I agree

Actually Tig,
I'm on the Platte River between Omaha & Lincoln Nebraska.
Originally, Catholics were only allowed to own land in Maryland - notice the name.
Sam Adams made sure the 1st & 2 ammendments were added as insurance against the papal franchise.
I might as well be living on the doorsteps of the Vatican tho, when I consider the extent of their influence.
You might've seen on my Nicolaitanes string that I lay the problems of institutionalization at the feet of it's originators - the Romans.
Nevertheless, I must admit, my peculiar worldview, if not my physical address, has afforded an abundance of interesting stories.

oh, I hope that wasn't towards me :( I was not intending my comment to be a put down, and I apologize if anyone took it as such. My utmost apologies. (As one of my best friends is Roman Catholic and would kill me if I insulted her Church!) :o
