I'm guessing these words alone caused a massive stir 2000 years ago. What would have been the reaction of the folk who heard Jesus saying this? Was it allowed for people without robes to preach about God? We're people very afraid of God in those days? .

Indeed, it was causing a massive stir, Mark 1:5 says that all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. They were wondering whether John the Baptist was Elijah, who would make the way for the Messiah or whether he was the Prophet like unto Moses. The people were looking for their Messiah to come, free them from Roman oppression, and rule and reign over them, so the message that the Kingdom of God was at hand was very good news to them, though they were incorrectly considering it to be a physical kingdom rather than a spiritual one because Jesus conquered a far greater problem than the Romans. There was no requirement for someone to wear a robe to preach about God. There is a difference between being afraid of someone and having a reverent fear of them. Perhaps another way of putting it is that we react differently to someone who is powerful, unsafe, but is holy, righteous, and good than we react to someone who is powerful, unsafe, but is evil.

Are we all one hundred percent the same here? Does every Christian believe this?

Hi AOTT,

Can't speak for everybody, but I can speak for myself. It is what the Scriptures teach and is, therefore, what I believe to be the truth.

God bless you,
In Christ, Ted

I would love to know peoples opinions on the actual message that Jesus gave to us.

Is it possible that we could sum it up in one sentence?

"The kingdom of God is near, repent and believe the good news!"

Hi AOTT,

Just rereading some threads and felt compelled to answer this post of yours. You open up by making the forthright claim that you are guessing. I hope that you really do understand that and the implications thereof. That being that you may not be right, and according to the general teachings of the Scriptures, likely aren't. Anyone can call themselves a christian, only God, through His Holy Spirit, can make one born again.

God bless you,
In Christ, Ted

I'm more than happy to admit I'm wrong if I am Ted. If I've got things wrong then so be it, I'm prepared to take my chances with Jesus. The problem is we won't know until the actual day of judgement. you never know we might even meet on that day!

Hi AOTT,

That's fine. I just wanted to make sure that you are aware that these things that you are presenting as some of the things you believe are, of your own admission, guesses. However, the answers are in the Scriptures and you don't have to depend on guesswork. But you do have to accept the truth, if being a child of God is what you seek.

God bless you,
In Christ, Ted
