  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been thinking a lot, over the years about Moses. Part of that thinking has been about why Moses is spoken of in II Peter and Jude. Also, why Paul mentioned Moses and the baptism through the sea and the cloud. And in Hebrew, how Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, whereas Jesus is faithful in all God's house as a son.

Further, Moses was said to write about Jesus, which I agree. Specifically, Moses wrong that one day one like his own self would come -- and that would be Jesus.

And, finally, Moses was seen in a transfigured body of glory with Jesus and Elijah.

But, starting with the scripture about Moses:

Moses was the most humble (meek) person on the face of the planet.

Some Bible say "meek", others "humble".

humble, as defined by google:
"having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance."

meek, as defined by google:
"quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on; submissive."

A friend once pointed out to me, "I think people know when God is talking to them in their heart" -- and I disagree in the sense that God can talk in your heart and not let you be conscious of it. But, I agree that if God wants you to hear his voice, you will hear his voice.

At the burning bush and afterwards, we see God was talking very clearly in Moses heart. Though there may have been some silence, as at one juncture "God wanted to kill Moses, but Zipporah, his wife, circumcised him making it all okay".

We know for a fact that from the time Moses approached Pharaoh, to the very end when Moses had to quietly retire at 120 he was hearing God's voice very plainly.

As for meekness, we do see times where even Moses got angry.

The first time we see Moses get angry was when he killed the slaver who was beating a Jew.

What does this tell us about Moses? It tells us he knew he was a Hebrew and he was tormented watching his people suffer so badly. So this built up until he finally killed that slaver and had to go on the run.

We can hardly imagine today, but living that way for forty years really must have been hard on Moses.

Another major time we saw Moses loose his cool was when he went up the mountain. The people stayed at the mountain but went crazy and forgot their god, building a golden calf to worship.

After all the profound miracles God showed Israel and Egypt, the people still lost their faith.

So that speaks to how terrible their slave lives were, that their spirits were all broken.

Moses also lost his cool at the rebellion of Korah, finally sending him, his followers, his wife and children, and all their belongs into hell alive.

And Moses lost his cool at that last rock, where he and Aaron said they - not God - would bring water from the rock. God understood he was under great pressure, but at least seemingly held this against Moses.

All of Moses life he did no wrong except that one thing. Whereas Jesus never did any wrong at all (and the only way anyone could have killed him was via hanging on a tree).

Hence, "Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, but Jesus was faithful in all God's house as a son".

Finally, there is the time when Aaron and Miriam wanted more power, saying to Moses, "aren't we prophets too?" But God corrected them, likely as a voice from the sky only they could hear. God pointed out that unlike all the other people then, and to come, when he speaks to them, he speaks in riddle. But, with Moses he "sees my very form" and is the most humble person on the face of the planet.

God even went further and said to Moses alone He speaks plainly and face to face.

At this Moses begged God to show himself to him - reminds me of the garden where the Apostles wanted to see God the Father - but God said, "no one can see my face and live". (Ironically at about the same time God said He speaks to Moses face to face).

Okay, I am stopping here, but hope this enlightens someone out there.
